Am I missing something here? The actual model being displayed is a 71 Duster. Not the one on the MPC box. I can see the high price for that kit as they demand the money. But a 71 Duster???

Here is the eBay item number.

That's a new build, based on the "new tool" '71 Duster kit.  The original MPC kit was a '73.  Seller is trying to pass it off as the original kit, which he really doesn't need to do, as the build looks good enough to sell on its own merits.

If I remember correctly there was a 1/24 die cast of this subject. The people were at all the shows years back, I think there was a jenkins car and sox and martin and maybe the motown missle. They were pretty nice.

I totally hate that when a seller tries to pass off something that's not what they say it is.

Then some of them get an attitude when you point it out............I guess they're ticked because their cover's been blown.

I was going to message the seller and ask what was up with that AMT body? But decided not to, just go avoid an argument.

I hear ya! A while back there was a seller trying to pass off a Revell '65 Chevelle as an original AMT annual. One look at it and I could tell it was the Revell as the roofline was a dead giveaway. I dropped him a line to say something and he wrote back to tell me.............."Well they're all under the same company anyway".

I wrote in return.......they definitely are NOT! He then shot back in all caps and said "CEASE CONTACT!"

The model did sell, but to be nosy I kept a watch on his auction page and it's interesting that there was never any feedback for it. ;) So yeah, I just ignore those types UNLESS in the description they say they're not sure of the brand or model. That can be the case where someone is trying to sell things off an estate for instance.

One thing I noticed on this build: engine looks like a 426 Hemi up top, but the photo from underneath looks like the small-block that comes in the Duster kit.  I'm wondering how the engine got hacked together.  Other than that, still looks like a clean "shelf build" that could stand on its own, without being passed off as something it isn't.

I'm doing less and less eBay buying, but when I do I tend to disregard the descriptions and just zero in on the pictures.  A lot of sellers "don't know much about these things", then you poke around in their recent sales, and that's all they sell...

I hear you. It’s not like you want to start something with someone you don’t even know, but when there is dishonesty, or even a simple mistake involved, I don’t see anything wrong with pointing it out. It proves beyond a shadow of a doubt, that that seller you were dealing with blatantly KNEW he was misleading, simply by the response he gave you. I just hate to see some younger guy in the hobby get “taken” and not even realizing it before it’s too late.

I collect first editions novels of Stephen King. I run into this all the time. It bothers me, that, people will be selling a book club edition, as a first edition, which is worth only a couple of dollars, but are asking for six times over the worth of a real first edition that would have to be in fine to near fine condition to get the top dollar to begin with.

Maybe we are just honest. I never put anything up for sale, hoping someone with no knowledge about it comes along and I can take advantage.
