SCRWDRVR Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 At one time in the 90's I built nothing but NASCAR kits and now that I'm back into building I pretty much lost interest in them, however I did think it would be cool to build one of the Mustang cars and maybe a Camaro but I haven't been able to locate one. So now I'm curious did I miss something or are they not making the modern cars in kits?
niteowl7710 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Revell did the 2016/17 season Fords and Chevrolets. But nothing of the current "pony" car bodies or any Toyota.
Dave Van Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Doubt R2 will tool new kits after their attempt did not wow modelers. And with Revell owners in Germany.....don't see them doing them. Resin is the only way.
SCRWDRVR Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 Wow that sucks, I've never even worked with a resin kit so I'm not sure that's a road I want to travel
martinfan5 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 There are two different resin Camaro bodies , and a few decals sheets for the Camaro, I am sure a Mustang resin body is coming soon. Its hard to know if Revell is going to move forward and do the new bodies. Working with resin isnt that much different than plastic, the big thing is making sure you clean resin parts first before you apply primer.

I think my biggest problem with resin and correct me if I'm wrong but when you get a resin body you have no chassis and so forth for it. I like you screen name, if I get it right your a Mark Martin fan, I have been for a looonnggg time... Edited July 1, 2019 by SCRWDRVR

Yes, would still have to buy one of new NASCAR kits to use the body with, its going to be a pricey , then decal sheet. I was when started driving for MB2 motorsports, but before that, I was not a fan of his.
Jim N Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 As I recall NASCAR paid Revell a fee to produce the kits. I doubt Revell of Germany would turn this down if offered. What may be delaying this is that NASCAR, the teams and the car manufacturers are hashing out the rules for the 2021 cars. The manufacturers are pushing for a hybrid type of car, so this would dramatically affect model kits. If we get a modern kit again, I think it will be after the 2021 cars are set.

Interesting, Hybrid race cars? that would be a huge change....

Not that NASCAR paid a 'fee' to have kits made.....but they did waive any fees they would charge Revell like they did in the past. NASCAR had rights over everything.....even body design as they were not cars designed by GM, Ford etc. NASCAR did make all tech specs and CAD available and did all they could to help the process. But if they paid Revell......only those at the top of a bankrupt company can say for sure.

My point was not clear, but the assistance NASCAR provided reduced Revell's costs to produce the kits considerably. As stated if Revell of Germany is offered the same assistance, I have a difficult time seeing that they would not accept, unless the kits are unprofitable even at that reduced cost.
Dave Van Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 I just feel Revell, now of Germany, will look at DTM or even F1 kits rather than NASCAR........ The new Porsche 935 racer is what I see them doing....IMHO ONLY!!!
martinfan5 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 (edited) Edit, whoops , double post because the Forums Software decided to take a break while I was trying to post my reply. Edited July 3, 2019 by martinfan5

It would make some sense , ok, it would make a ton of sense for them to at least do the new Mustang and Camaro bodies for the current tooling, get some more mileage out of the current Gen Chassis used for the new kits. It sounds like the new Gen race car is going to have a new chassis as well making the current tooling obsolete, and we all know how much model kit companies love to get the most mileage out their tooling. SCRWDRVR Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 I know I would like to see a version of the Mustang and Camaro even if it’s on the old chassis....
