So I picked up this brand new in the box Revell '59 Impala kit. I typically build race cars, but I want to do this one really well, and stock. I love the lines of the car.

I have decided to go with the stock '59 color "Roman Red". Are there any model paints out there that I can use to get this color? Also I am going with a red interior. I am assuming that these were vinyl interiors? What would be the best paint to replicate that?

Below are pics that I found for reference. 1959-chevrolet-body-colors.jpg.310353db531a57d35a75aa2f3367fd64.jpg1959-chevrolet-convertible-interior.jpg.c7cdcf69f504296052b64d779154fe4f.jpg1959-chevrolet-dash.jpg.fff5e9fe209eaabf8ae206fb5a447fd3.jpg

The seat inserts on most '59 Impalas were cloth. The rest of the interior was done in vinyl. Most of the reproduction interiors offered today can be had with either the cloth inserts or in all vinyl with the cloth pattern imprinted on the vinyl.

David were not the convertibles interiors vinyl though? Seems like most '50's convertible interiors I've seen the seats were vinyl. Wouldn't want to ruin that nice cloth in case the top was left down! :D

On the matter of the color, I went to my local paint guy who mixed up a touch-up amount of '59 Roman Red for me. Now granted one would need an airbrush for this, but since I was doing a detailed build, I figured might as well go all out and get the factory color for it. I do wish Revell however offered other colors for their seats besides red or blue decals.

I'm not an expert by any means, but a family friend had a '59 Impala Convertible when it was a late model car. His was painted Black with Red interior and cloth inserts. I only recall a couple of other convertibles from that time and the ones that I remember only had the cloth inserts. Maybe someone with a little more in depth knowledge could offer some additional information on the subject. I have seen several restorations of '59 Impalas and many have the cloth pattern printed on a full vinyl interior. The vinyl interior would prove more durable over time when exposed to the sun I think.

My foggy memory... the inserts on interiors were a rayon woven type fabric that didn't wear well at all.  It was common for low mile cars to have interiors in tatters.  That's why Rayco seat covers were popular!
