gtx6970 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Something ive been pondering for some time now. Seems most mopar kits produced come with a Dana rear axle. And most of the kits i like to build had the 8.3/4 axle. So....... How would a newbie go about making copies of say maybe the rear axle from the amt 1971 Charger as an example . I think its the widest one avail so can be narrowed if the project needed it.
Chariots of Fire Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Two part rubber mold and from a master of the one you want to copy and then two part casting resin. I'd stiffen up the axle with a piece of wire inserted in the mold while pouring the resin to make sure there is no droop over the long term. The resin can creep in time if not reinforced.

ScottH454 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 What else will you want to cast parts of? The initial investment to get decent results can cost a few hundred dollars. So if you only want some rear ends then it might be cost-effective to put in a request to an established caster. That is how I have been deciding what my next parts will be is from forum requests.
gtx6970 Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 Any casters already make said part or willing to make some for me. ?
ScottH454 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Well, I am looking through what I have for the most detailed option.
garagepunk66 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 The Jo-Han Turbine Car has one of the nicest ones kitted IMHO. I like the one in the AMT Chrysler 300C second best
