br67 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Hi, Im looking to remove stock wheel arch section from one model and splice into another. What is best adhesive to use to prevent issues later one? Plasticweld or epoxy? Or CA?
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 For styrene-to-styrene bonds, I'd strongly recommend a solvent-type adhesive like Plasticweld.
Plowboy Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I use Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. If there are any small gaps, I fill with crazy glue.
Mark Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 X3 for solvent cement. I've never had luck with CA glue or epoxy for something like this, particularly where you might have to flex the body a bit to get it over the interior/chassis.
br67 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 Thank you the flexing part of the equation is what concerned me should I support the rear of the joins with sheet styrene too?
stitchdup Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 I use humbrol or revell poly cement for stuff like this, and if my cuts aren't quite right i'd fill them from behind with the 2 part acrylic nail filler for the extra strength, then normal filler to finish. If you decide to use the nail filler i'd recomend the 2 or 5 min activator as the 10 min stuff softens the plastic around it until it resets, while the others dont so much. It is tough to rub down but where you need extra strength without too much thickness i find it good
