torinobradley Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 One good thing about us down here in Texas... no basements... (I think three houses have 'em here in San Antonio) But nor can we put our collection in the garage unless it is somewhat insulated and the attic is a definite no-no... The price we pay for three days of winter, I guess... We have seen a fair amount of 100 year floods in the past few prompting me to suggest an evaluation of what a 100 year flood is... I have lost more models to heat than anything else. It warps the bodies and parts as well as cooks the decals. Bakes em to a golden yellow-brown. My heart goes out to all of you who lost loved ones (people and things) to natures fury.
Harry P. Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) Harry, For the same reason I wonder how people live in places that freeze Is that some sort of comment on Chicago??? Heck, we get all the weather here... hot and humid in the summer, freeze-your-butt-off cold in the winter, and everything else in between. But we don't get anywhere near the rainfall you get. A few weeks ago we got 7 inches in one day... and that was the all-time one-day record for Chicago. I can't imagine 20+ inches in 24 hours! Edited September 24, 2008 by harrypri
RadRidesByDan Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) Hell, In Calgary we have gotten in the past all 4 seasons during the summer time. One year I was talking to friends back home in Montreal, it was about 76F outside with nice sun, and within 20 minutes, It went down to 32F and cloudy, started to rain, then hailed until the ground was covered white and then back up to the mid 70F's. . We go from -40F to +70F's overnight during the winter seasons. Try that for a season and not catch a cold or flu Edited September 24, 2008 by RadRidesByDan
kk916 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I couldnt imagine that much rain in 2 days, I think we get that in like a year....I love Sacramento # Annual maximum temperature (average): 92.4 degrees Fahrenheit (33.6 degrees Celsius) # Annual minimum temperature (average): 37.7 °F (3.2 °C) # Average rainfall: 19.6 inches (500 mm)
MrObsessive Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I personally would love to retire to Puerto Rico to get away from this...................... This is at the last house I lived in a few winters ago with my long gone Mitsubishi............with the high cost of heating oil now, winter has become one of my least favorite of seasons.
Joe Handley Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) We get those days around here too, IIRC this was in less than one full day and it's not like my Jeep is running rubber bands for tires either Edited September 25, 2008 by Joe Handley
diymirage Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 i severly hate snow i live in western michigan and on a bad day well get over a foot of snow in a few hours not much fun at all (althought i do kinda enjoy snowplowing on my lawnmower)
george 53 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 WoW, I truly must be nuts, cause the ONLY other place I'd rather live other than southwest Michigan( Metro Deeetroit area) is OZ. Stump sent me pics of his house an it really is a paradise! No Island for me! I'm a born big city boy an I love em. The convienience, the people, Hell, I even LIKE the snow! My sister moved to Texas in 76 and moved back in 90, an she said Christmas wasn't Christmas without snow. Must be a northern thing. Don't worry bout Hurricanes, floods, tornados, or earthquakes, Freezin temps I can dress for, but how do you deal with 100 mph winds, rainin SIDEWAYS, an tidal waves? In Texas they shut down the gas stations if the air has too much static electricity! All we gotta worry about is crooked politicians NOT mother nature. Thank God!
Harold Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 ok, here ya go. As far as where to find a ruler in cubits, you're on your own. Now get busy! Harry, isn't that the old Pyro kit? . How much Tenax, Zap-A-Gap and Zip-Kicker do you need for that?

Actually, George, we're in southeast Michigan (unless the world just tilted on its axis...).

Harry P. Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I'll agree that Christmas just isn't Christmas without snow... but aside from that ONE day, I could easily do with no snow, ever. I'd love to live in Albuquerque or Taos or somewhere near there... perfect weather almost every day. No monsoons, floods, hurricanes, typhoons, tropical storms, tornados, or cyclones, ever! So why am I still here in the midwest? Inertia...
Harry P. Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I've also heard that the Carolinas are beautiful... Raleigh, Greenville, Mayberry...
george 53 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 OOOPPS, My Bad!, Your right Harold, I'm in southeast Michigan, But I'm from southwest Deeeetroit! So thats what messed me up!(Among other things) Either way, I still love/like Michigan!
