Ron Hamilton Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 A couple of years ago, I bought a built up 1969 MPC Impala SS427 Hardtop. It looks as if it was a second time around restoration, as it was cleanly built as a Replica Stock car, but it was not my cup of tea as built. I successfully stripped all of the paint from the body this morning, and now I have to work on the interior tub. I built an 1969 AMT Impala SS 427 Hardtop (which is the superior body) the way I wanted it, and it came out pretty good. I used the chassis, interior floor, and drivetrain from AMT's excellent '67 Impala SS427. I plan to do the same thing with this one, but with a twist, and that's where your opinion comes in. I plan to do one of the following to this one: 1. SS427 Convertible with the correct rear quarter panels, trunk lid, inner side panels. I am going to utilize a lot of the parts from the Revell 1965 Impala Convertible kit, and the big block engine, automatic transmission, console/shifter, steering wheel, and Rally Wheels from the AMT '70 Monte Carlo SS. The "Strato" bucket seats will be modified to be correct. 2. Bel Air or Biscayne 2 door post sedan, with the roof and trunk lid correctly modified, utilizing either the AMT'67 Impala SS427 or Revell '65 Impala Super Sport parts. I have a set of articles on the '69 Chevy post sedans, as well as a set of photos of the real thing. I also have a correct set of '69 Dog Dish hubcaps for the car. What is your opinion???
george 53 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) OOOO, go for the Belair/Biscayne! those are such neat cars when ya put a Big Block Chevy in em! I made a 66 B iscayne usein a 66 convertable resin body an the roof from a 70 Ford Galaxie 4dr. Yeah, I know the roof lines off a tad, but it looks good to me and I've got one! LVZ2881 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 both are interesting ideas, but I would have to vote for the Biscayne....
John E. Bowers Jr. Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 It's gonna be beautiful either way Ron, I wish I was in possession of the skills to build as well as you do I aslo like the idea of a base model, no frills big block 4 speed Biscayne. Hope to see ya later this month. J.B.
Randy Kern Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Bel Air 2-Dr Sdn. in Mulsanne Blue. Even with the dog dish caps (I would have to put mags on it ) it would look good. A friend in high school managed to get a '68 427 4-spd 2-Dr Sdn. in that mint green color they had, and left it stock. Very strange when you heard that 427 rumble, and looked to see a plain-Jane big Chevy!
MrObsessive Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Ron, go for the Biscayne! Models of those are never seen! It would be the perfect sleeper with a 427, dog dishes, and redlines!
84vanagon Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Hi Ron. My vote would go to the Biscayne. Have you considered a base Impala Sport Coupe instead of the more formal "Custom Coupe"?
