1/24DragAndStreetCars Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I'd love to build one or two 1968 Hemi cars, as by blood I'm a Mopar guy. I know dodge has the S/S Dart kit, but what about a Barracuda? Does AMT's 1969 kit have the bits to make it a super stock car? And if not, could I just use the Dart parts, as they're both A-Bodies? I know the wheelbase is different, but I can easily fix that. I plan on doing two bodies in white, with the primer and black gelcoat, and then two ready-to-go racers, undecided on livery though.
Snake45 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 The AMT (ex-MPC) '69 Cuda at one time had a Hemi, but I don't think it does anymore. There were no NHRA legal '69 Hemi Barracuda Super Stocks, since none came from the factory. Some of the '68s (such as S&M's) got updated '69 front ends and trim, but they then had to run in A/MP. I think there's some aftermarket parts to backdate the kit from a '69 to a '68 if you want to do one in gray & black primer, but of course no '69s were delivered that way. I wanna do a S&M Cuda myself someday, but I'm gonna take the easy way out and do it as the '69 car in either A/MP or B/Gas rather than deal with backdating.
Mark Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 There were several kits to backdate the MPC kit to a '68. Find a pre-Ertl issue (one of the street machines) as those have '68 side markers on the body. All of the 1:1 cars were built as 1968 cars. For the underbody, I've got a Dart kit set aside for mine. The wheelbase will need to be shortened for the 'Cuda though.
