Snake45 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Saw this model in yellow at Walmart a few weeks ago, and only didn’t get it because I decided I wanted something else more that day; sadly, it hasn’t reappeared locally. I needed a C7 Corvette of some kind for my January 2020 Corvette calendar car. Some net research showed 2019s available from Motor Max and Welly. The Welly’s probably a little better, but the MM is available in orange, which matches the calendar picture, so Motor Max it was! Ordered it from diecastmodelswholesale. Sale price, including shipping (split with two other diecasts), was well under $20. Comparing it to net reference pics, it seems to look pretty good. The pearly orange paint is shiny and nice. The only area that really needed improvement was the grilles on the front end. The prepainted black didn’t come out to the edges of the areas; I had to paint in all the borders with a brush and Model Master Black Chrome Trim. Some more black touchup was required at the tops and bottoms of the A-pillars on both sides, not a big deal. Then just had to paint the tailpipes black and the front side marker lights yellow and sand the tire treads. With only about an hour’s worth of 1st degree Snake-Fu, I was ready for the new year! Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome.
Gramps46 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Very well done and thanks for sharing. If I didn't already have the yellow one I would be tempted by the orange.
Snake45 Posted January 23, 2020 Author Posted January 23, 2020 Thanks for reminding me of the yellow Welly. It's just enough different from my orange MM that if I run across one for $10, I'll probably get it, but not different enough to go out of my way looking for one (or to pay full metal retail). I'm getting quite a collection/accumulation of diecast Corvettes. I have at least one C1, several C2s, both early and late C3s, and a handful of C5, C6, and C7s. But I don't think I have a diecast C4. (I have one built kit and a couple of Snake-Fu'ed promos, but no diecast.) Did a real quick net search the other day and I couldn't find any diecast C4s--at least, not any cheap ones. Did Welly, Motor Max, Maisto, or any of the popular-priced makers ever do one?

IDK if the cheaper brands did one, but the Mint versions can be had reasonably if ya keep looking. They weren't especially good models, imo. There is a yellow one that is pretty dang awful. Seems like there is a blue one that goes fairly cheap too. Or it should. I had one last year and it was pretty bad.

I built this table just to remined myself of the model years. Corvette Model Years C-1 1953-1962 C-2 1963-1967 C-3 1968-1982 no 1983 C-4 1984-1996 C-5 1997-2004 C-6 2005-2013 C-7 2014-2019 These are the only C-4s in my Corvette collection and the only diecast I have is the Revell 1989 Exon Challenge one. The white convertible is an AMT promo. Like Randy says there are Franklin and Danbury Mint C4s but I did not find any Maisto etc. diecast in a quick search. I did see cheap Revell black ones on the bay. Edited January 23, 2020 by Gramps46
randyc Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 I do have a 1996 in Todd's collection. I think it is labeled Philly Mint, but made by Greenlight and is a numbered edition. I'll try to get a photo of it. And it can be yours. LOL

I actually found a couple of Motormax C4 Vettes at Walmart last year... $10 each... I got 2 yellow ones and 2 black ones.... I'll get some pics when I go to storage, tomorrow....
kilrathy10 Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I got a couple of these orange?yellow ZR-1's from Walmart last year, as well.... I always thought that wing was a bit over the top, but I found if I turned the spoiler around, it looked better... Of course, to remain pure, I displayed it the way it should be, but I do plan to rework one with and without the spoiler in various colors...
