6883michaelw Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) Been working on this one for about 3 weeks now. Should be a very cool and unique stock car when done. Started with an MCW 70 Impala Sport Coupe body. Modifying original kit frame. Decals are PPP. Will update as project progresses. Edited February 20, 2020 by 6883michaelw
6883michaelw Posted February 20, 2020 Author Posted February 20, 2020 Body cleaned up, mouldings removed and fender well opened up. Rear have slight flair but still need a bit of work. Front inner fender well removed from chassis. Stock rear end under for now but will put trailing arm 9 inch from AMT kit later. Interior from an original glue bomb Bobby Allison 72 Monte Carlo. Cage is Polar Lights side bars and evergreen .080 rod for the rest.
6883michaelw Posted February 23, 2020 Author Posted February 23, 2020 Had a productive weekend on the Impala. Cleaned up chassis and removed fuel tank. Rear suspension from AMT Grand Prix fell almost perfectly in place. Had to move springs forward about 1/16 inch. Front support needed to be narrowed slightly. Using metal springs front and rear for added detail. Fuel cell modified from Monogram chassis. Will be painting chassis and interior semi gloss black since I have no real reference pics to go by. It does appear from the one pic I do have that this was a pretty low budget race car and they didn't spend much on paint
swede70 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Neat topic and definitely unusual. Off to a strong start clearly. Thanks for sharing... Mike K./Swede70
6883michaelw Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 Got a little more done this weekend. 9 inch with pump installed. Dash from Allison Monte Carlo modified but I'm not totally happy with it. Will probably make a few changes there. Finally got the interior to fit properly in body. Cage tucks right up to the roof like it should. Car sits much better now. The stance isn't quite like the real car but I like it better. Should have a bit more time this week to work on it. Will try to get engine, suspension and front cage roughed in. Hopefully ready to start paint this weekend.
espo Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Very realistic looking build. I like the chassis details and the roll cage looks like it would pass tech inspection.
