 Hello all I'm almost done building a revell 1/6 scale ford 427 drag engine and I'm frustrated because I carefully placed some super glue on the pins for the crankcase breathers and now I got that typical super glue white haze on the chrome valve covers and breathers :P Does anyone have a method to remove it or know a trick to make it not so noticeable? I didn't actually get glue on the chrome itself. I just have a white haze near the bonding points. I didn't want to try any thinners because I didn't want to possibly ruin the chrome finish before getting some advice. Any help at all on this subject would me greatly appreciated. Thanks guys have a good one

Often that white haze is merely a dusting on the surface, if you can get a small paintbrush in there or Qtip or pipe cleaner it may very well wipe away w/o any liquid/solvent.

One of many reasons to not use super glue.

The problem is when super glue gets old and there is moisture in the air you get this "crazing". CA also reacts with oil from your fingers.

There is not much you can do about it once it happens, but you can try a little future to help lessen the "crazed" area. At least make it less noticable. Expoxy is often the better way to go in substitution for CAs.

FWIW, a crazed joint is also not as strong.

I use zap-a-gap glue on everything from chrome to my windows. on show cars and basic car's . I never had a problem. What I use is an Accelerator, this bonds the glue in an instant. This way there wont be any fumes to mess up you nicely finished model. I thought every one knew about it but just the other day i was talking with some builders who have still been building the old way, and never heard of it. once I showed them how it worked they cant live without it. Plus it make building much easyer you dont got to sit there and hold the part till it dry's. it cut's down the drying time from 10 sec to 1 sec.

Two words - Zap Polyzap. It is designed for RC car lexan bodies and does not fog. It is a bit thicker and slower to dry but the advantages make it worth having in your arsenal of glues. You can use a mix 50/50 91% alcohol and distilled water to get the haze off. Don't use the 100% alcohol. It will take the chrome off.

I had attached some parts on a '40 Ford body with CA glue and put it back in the box to set up. I took it out a few days later and the CA had left a haze on the polished out front fenders!

I was able to use some Meguiars Show Car Glaze on the body and all the haze came off, whew!
