E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 THDave I have a confession to make. When I saw the title to your thread, I thought to myself, man is this going to be one ugly dog. But just one look, and as a chopper, channeler, sectioner, shortener, lengthener, molder, french headlightser, and any other -----er when it comes to body work for over 40 years. (My first sectioned and molded car was a '40 Ford Coupe in '61), I have to say the following...... THAT IS ONE BOSS LOOKING CAR, ONE SO GOOD THAT I MIGHT DO ONE MYSELF. IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE. WHEN YOU ARE DONE, AND I HAVE SEEN YOUR WORK, THIS WILL BE EVEN BETTER THAN THE 59 CHEV TURBINE AEROCAR THAT WAS ON A COVER OF ANOTHER MAG YEARS AND YEARS AGO. I LIKE IT EVEN MORE THAN BOYD'S GREEN CONVERTIBLE. WAY TO GO. KEN "FLORIDABOY" WILLAMAN Hey Ken Thanks man. Love to see someone else's take on this. I'm doin' a "Badzilla copy" of another guy's build. His was so cool, I wanted one for myself, 'bout half done. I'll paint this today or tomorrow. Gotta take my cat to the vet this morning. Got some kinda itch goin. Thanks again - Dave
E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Hi ya'll Well I can't believe I made this choice, but the stock set-up really grabs me. Most everything I build as a street rod get's the standard 24" treatment with "rubberband tires I still can't believe I like this stock retro look - but it looks really cool. CRAZY!! I MUSTA SLIPPED A COG LOL
E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 I really like those wheels, What are they from? Thanks Clay They're the stock 59's that come in the kit.
george 53 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Dave, Slipped a cog?, Stripped a gear? This is probly THE closest to a STOCK LOOKIN car I've seen you build! It's gonna be killer when your done, Daddy-O! Can I have THIS one? If not, I can wait.
E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Dave, Slipped a cog?, Stripped a gear? This is probly THE closest to a STOCK LOOKIN car I've seen you build! I know George. What's wrong wit me Must be da change in da wedder. Beena sleepin' all day too. Sure felt good . Guess I won't be apaintin this ole' girl 'till the mornin. Sure do look forward to it though, but too sleepy right now. Probly be up all night now, but I surely do feel a bit peaceful. Be good there George. Your buddy Dave
84vanagon Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Too cool Dave! I do like the wide whites on this one. One suggestion in keeping with the Corvette side of the build is some Corvette spinner wheel covers (Monogram 57, AMT/MPC 60, Monogram 53 or AMT 53-55) to keep it from beeing too Impala-ish.

Never thought of using Corvette "caps" . Great idea These are Revell '57 Corvette hubcaps. Looks great to me. What do you think? Thanks again - Dave Edited October 31, 2008 by Treehugger Dave
84vanagon Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 (edited) Hmm... not sure. It sounded neat in my head, but I like the 'pala covers better. What about the stock 63 wheel covers from the Revell 63 Split Window snapper? I spoke too soon Dave. I saved the pic on my 'puter cropped it and enlarged it. The flash was making the wheel covers look too much like 57 Caddy wheel covers. Enlarged you can see the detail much better. Looks good . Still the 63 covers might be kinda cool too . Raul_Perez Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Call me myopic on this one, but with all of the modern Vette goodies you’ve already put in, (engine, drivetrain, suspension...), I’d go with the modern Vette wheels…but then there is the waterfall coming off of the back that drops down to the console... I think the truth is it really doesn't matter. Any way you go will look GREAT!!

Thanks Raul I'm learning how much fun it is to toss idea's out there, and how I can learn from the feedback I get from you guys. "OLD DOG'S CAN STILL LEARN NEW TRICKS" LOL. I'm kinda blind to things sometimes like everyone else , so any suggestions are much appreciated . You all make this hobby a lot of fun for me. Thanks again - Dave
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) Hi all Well, gotter done this morning. Started about 7:30 with a little primer touch-up, and then sprayed the white basecoat. Remember, this is single stage and two stage urethanes. I let the white flash off for about 15 minutes, and then started shooting all the pieces in red. Let flash off again for 15 minutes and do a little sanding touch-up and respray, and then spray 3 coats of the clear coat 15 minutes apart. Here's all the supplies I used. Here I am looking like an alien. It turned out very shiney and wet looking. It won't take much polishing I'll let this dry 24 hours and then it'll be ready to rub out. Then I'll spray the windshield frame and the cowl semi-closs black like a stock Corvette. Edited November 2, 2008 by Treehugger Dave
Clay Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 thats looks great dave, but it kinda looks orangey to me.
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 thats looks great dave, but it kinda looks orangey to me. Ya Flash from the camera, especially on the front fender closest to the camera. When I post more pics, I'll check before I post. Thanks Clay Dave
Raul_Perez Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Very nice, Dave!! I can't wait to see this one finished!!
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 2, 2008 Author Posted November 2, 2008 Thanks everyone I did another thread on this some time ago, when I first started this project, and got some good feedback and really good idea's, that helped me get this far. In some way's this has been sort of a community project, and I appreciate all the suggestions and encouragement . It'll be fun to see how it turns out. Some of my projects in the past didn't live up to what I had hoped for, so we'll see
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 More fun I got the paint rubbed out and a little detailing done on the chassis and interior tub. The next thing is to paint the windshield frame and cowl semi-gloss black, and then do all the interior and chassis detailing. Lot's of masking and spraying on the interior. Love this stuff Adios - Dave
Raul_Perez Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Looking good, Dave!! I can't wait to see this one at the NNL West in March!! You are coming, right??
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 (edited) Looking good, Dave!! I can't wait to see this one at the NNL West in March!! You are coming, right?? Was there in 2007 and had a blast Steve Hinson was terrific. We'll see about 2009. GSL is around a month or so later, and may have to choose. $$$$$$$$ - LOL I forgot to include this photo yesterday of these parts. Everything is done except the white interior parts that are prepped in white primer. For small parts I like to use a micro drill bit, .020", from a set I have , and then use round tooth pics inserted in the hole, and then pressed into the floral foam blocks that I cut down to size. Very nice for handling. I wear latex gloves so I don't look like a walking neon sign Hope you enjoy the tip - Dave Edited November 3, 2008 by Treehugger Dave
raisin27 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 That is one cool project, very creative and well done. Raisin
Bernard Kron Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 So glad to see this on the fast track. Once it moved into primer the proportion and stance really firmed up. The windshield frame really ties it all together. Can't wait to see this lovely thing completed!
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 (edited) Well, here we go Quite a bit more done. Got the front and rear started, and chrome trim on one side done. Forgot to take a pic with the hood open . Oh well, I'll do it later. This is fun. Wasn't sure at first if I was going to like the wheel/tire choice after some assembly, but like it now . Guess that's enough for today. I'll save some for tomorrow . Nap time LOL Edited November 4, 2008 by Treehugger Dave
