Don't forget the 68 or 69 , whatever year it is, AMX. I have the Testors HSO version of this and the Scrambler and they are still buildable kits, but could probably stand a bit of cleaning up. I'm just throwing the AMX in the mix because it hasn't been mentioned.

Alot of the Seville kits were leftover warehouse stock, test shots, and seconds that they boxed up to get started. To the best of my knowledge they didn't actually do any injection production runs, which is why the lawsuit came about. That is why you found some strange stuff in Seville boxed kits- odd colors and just factory defects.

It seems to be Jo-Han assets are more of stuff junk picked from the dumpster that would be significantly more expesive to restore that starting over. Plus if they are indeed Beryllium, which they could be - probably nobody wants to touch it. Notwithstanding, it's highly regulated by the government because it's main use is in nuclear weapons and Beryllium dust is toxic, if not leathel.

The very best least costly thing to do with them is ship them overseas to somewhere that could repair the tools because there are some places that don't have regulations on Beryllium and can Beryllium tool-make at a pretty reasonable cost.

Just sitting on them here isn't ever going to get anywhere. Someone with half a brain and capital needs to take control... but as I understand it there has been some people with half a brain and capital who have simply flat out passed on the proposition.

I'd even be willing to stick my neck out and push to see it happen if it's still possible but which ones. My gut says go for the "Cuda and the Maverick but If I make the wrong suggestion and they sell poorly ......well I just don't want to ruin a good thing if you know what I mean.

Any suggestions .......?

Steve

That is a "sticky wicket". I think your ideas of the 'cuda and the Maverick are correct.

Not trying to keep the "dead horse" vein around but IMHO these have a better chance of being better sellers than some of the others. The 442 might be another one, but I don't suspect it will have the sales of the 'cuda or the Maverick. Another thought would be the 68 Fury police car if it was still around. If I recall correctly it was available quite late in Johan's line up.

I personally would buy anything "Johan" just to help out revenue.

At one point the Johan site had some information that the Plymouth Fury police car was involved in some sort of dispute between Johan and the plastic company that was supposed to produce it. Later there were claims that all the Johan Furys sold by Okey were left over stock acquired when he bought the company. I don't remember if that was a rumor or from Okey.

I would happily buy a couple more Furys to help out if they were available again. :)

Without revealing anything confidential I can say that the old Johan tooling Testors used for the HSO releases are not lost but are unfortunately in need of some significant repairs. There was some discussion last year at this time on what to do with them, last I heard they're still sitting in limbo so to speak.

All this recent talk about them has got me thinking on the best way to get at least a couple of them repaired and back on the shelves. I'd even be willing to stick my neck out and push to see it happen if it's still possible but which ones. As much as I hear people wanting anything AMC, I would think the AMX would be a good on. The Cuda and Maverick would sell too. But of course these appeal to us older guys and not so much to the young'ns. I think there are quite a bit of S/C Ramblers out there. They seem to go rather inexpensively when I see them.

I too would enjoy having the AMX, same bodystyle Comets and Mavericks, but the Cuda always seemed a bit chinsy/cheap when it came to the detail.... Atleast all of the Testor's Reboxing that I saw when they were out..... Yeah the Ramblers never seemed to take off when they had Testor's name on the box, in fact I got one back in the day for $8 with the Pewter Rims, and the Mavericks and such were still going for $28-35 at the time(I've always like the AMC's, and the Rambler's were Kool little Sleepers waiting to happen).....

The below text is a message I got today about Johan.

OK. First off, please accept my apologies for not posting in a few

days. As many of you know I do magazine articles to supplement my

disability income. I have not read all of the posts yet, but judging

by the ones I have read, it is being said that JoHan is 'dead in the

water'. Please Do Not Give Up The Ship Yet.

I am not at liberty to discuss the exact situation of what occured

with Okey; however, I can say this much.... I spoke with Okey on the

phone on Wednesday the 22nd and he told me that he is 'Free and clear

to find a building now and centralize JoHan's operations.' He has

told me he is looking once again for that building now that the legal

matters are settled.

I have begun listing items for him on eBay and have been doing

searches for him for photoetch items for the new releases. So unless

something bad has occured since I last spoke with Okey, the details I

have point to JoHan being 'Alive and Kicking' or to use the name of

this group...

JoHan Models is being RESURRECTED.

Sure are a lot of those ramblers around for sale cheap (relatively) I've been buying up 64 and up promos and old builds with the idea of kit bashing with the better detailed chassis. Seeing as the bumpers really didn't change throughout that cars lifespan, I save on purchasing from Modelhaus too.

Sounds like a lot of doubletalk to me.

JoHan is being resurrected?

I'll believe it when (if) I see it.

We all know that no one can change the past, only to savor it or regret parts of it. I have been fortunate enough to regret some things but never had a major calamity brought on by my basic ignorance, and believe me, I have my share.

But a major regret over my model car building "career" was the somewhat negative way I viewed and ignored Johan. I bought one, and even admired its scale and contents for the state of the art then, but they had the not-so-popular models, like DeSotos, Oldsmobiles, Cadillac Hearses, and in the seventies they started to kick it in with repops of some of their sixties stuff, and new tools for funny cars and drag racers. They had a tremendous Mickey Thompson Titanium Pinto funny car, a very nice Dodge Challenger and a host of many other cars. But me, I was into fat fendered cars at the time, so again, I just didn't buy Johan. I did buy a couple of Johan Pintos in the case I decided to get into funny cars.

Then when they went out of business, I heard the outgoing employees were treated badly and some were not paid for their work, chaos reigned supreme, so the departing employees went off with some of the tools, and who knows what has happened since.

It is sad that Okie Spaulding couldn't revitalize anything except the Rambler and Turbine car, so I hear. I would have scarfed up those 56 Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles in a moment. If I had it to live over again, I would have purchased enough kits to keep them in business, and I am sure many of us out there feel the same way................now.

Unfortunately for all of us, way too late.

Good luck Okie, I hope you prosper in the future.

 OK, this may be a BIT off topic,But just HOW did Lindberg get the 34 truck? If AMT "lost" the tooling, and Lindberg "found" it, wouldn't it STILL belong to AMT? I don't know JACK about corporate doings, but I don't really understand how that was done. "Finders/Keepers"?
