Anyone catch the news on the F1 websites about Ferrari saying they will leave F1?It's over the FIA's proposal to have a third party supply engines and transmissions in the 2010,2011 and 2012 seasons. The FIA wants to curtail spending and they think this is one way to go.Ferrari says this goes against the spirit of competition and are not thrilled with the idea.

This has been ongoing for the past couple of years. The FIA is trying to make it cheaper for smaller teams to run. Toyota has announced the same thing...that they would pull out and concentrate more on sports cars if this happens. Max Mosley and the FIA are basically trying to shoot themselves in the foot. I would almost bet that all major car manufacturers would pull out if this happens.

It's all bull if you ask me. It'll take away the competition.

It's nice too see that Toyota would get back to sports car racing, hopefully rally if they don't cheat again. :D

They are always threatening to leave. First FIA thinks Ferrari is missunderstanding the new rule. The propsal is really a spec engine where a team can build there own engine or use a third party engine, or another manufacture engine. They have x (12 or so days) to submit proposed engines to be considered. FIA parting words was if you have a better idea to keep cost down we will listen, but otherwise we are pushing forward with this idea - as bad as it is.

However, if F1 does go to a spec engine that will be the end of F1. There will still being racing, but it's not going to be F1, and they are going to loose all there fan base.

Today FIA basically told Ferrari to pound sand. Ferrari earnings for 3rd qrt was 585 M Euros and said that there isn't anyone that can compete with that.

If Max, Bernie and FIA keep jacking with it that will be the end of F1.

I hope so :)

Hear me out; where I used to be a F1 as European, the competition was great, races were exciting, drivers had a personality. But now, the drivers are people with PS2 skills, they control the car, rather than drive it.

But what irritates me most is that Bernie controls basically everything, up to when and where everyone can poop.

I seriously would hope that F1 died rather soon, and be succeeded by a new all-star racing league, controlled by people who love the sport and have gas in their blood rather than dollarsigns in their eyes.

Mclaren also poo-poo FIA and Max spec engine proposel.

F1 is the most high tech racing on the planet and thats what makes it what it is. You've heard the expression,"Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go."

The other saying I like is," If you can't hang with the big dogs, get off the porch." :(
