Bills72sj Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Looking for info on 1967 to 1972 Chevy trucks. I just recently made a trade for this resin 1967 Chevy Fleetside. There are no side marker lights ('67 only?). The grille seems to be '67 or '68. The bumpers read "1967". The back end is where I am confused. The tailgate shows the upscale trim level that I think first came out in 1969. The tail lights attached to the bumper look like upside down '66 or '67 Nova tail lights. The last picture is of the rear end of the bedsides for an AMT 1972 Chevy Fleetside. In that kit the taillights are separate chrome pieces. Does anyone know the history on the AMT annuals from '67 to '72? And, is the AMT 1972 Fleetside my only option for a donor kit? (I need glass, interior, chassis and suspension) I have plenty of spares for engine and wheels.
sfhess Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 (edited) 67 did not have side marker lights so the fenders and bed sides are unique to that year. 67-68 Chevy fenders were shaped differently at the front edge from 69-72 and 67-72 GMC. Edited July 19, 2020 by sfhess

Can-Con Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 That looks like it was cast directly from an original '67. The tail lights never were very accurate on those kits. They should be higher in the 1/4 panel with the extra height added to the red lens. The current Revell '64-'66 Chevy pickup chassis is pretty correct for this generation pickup and the cab drops right on if you just cut the front bumper mounts from the frame. The Revell kits are short box trucks so you'd need to stretch the chassis about 1/2 inch or shorten the box. Yea, that tail gate looks newer than it should. The original kit and promo had a plain tailgate with the CHEVROLET letters raised. that should have been set in. On the last one I built, I cut the letters section from a Revell '64 fleetside tailgate and grafted them into the newer tailgate.

So the earlier 64-66 chassis works and the tail gate logo is cut and paste. What about the windows and interior tub? I am more concerned with ease of fitment over accuracy.

If,, "IF" ,, the cab is cast thin as the original, the glass and interior from any AMT or MPC kit of that same generation truck should drop right in. Edited July 19, 2020 by Can-Con
mikemodeler Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 The chassis from the AMT kit will fit under this resin kit but keep in mind one of the downfalls of that chassis is that it is very simplistic and offers no detail. The aforementioned 64-66 Revell C-10 chassis has much more accuracy and detail, just needs to be extended as it is a shortbed chassis. That Revell kit is much easier and cheaper to find too. Also, the AMT chassis has a rear "droop" to it that when assembled, looks like the chassis has a bow in the middle causing the body lines to look off. If you go that route, be sure to shim up the rear of the bed so it looks right.
