This is a old AMT Autocar DC I’ve had for about 16yrs always undecided what till make till last winter. I decided to make it a Dump truck. I took my brother Bill’s old bed he gave me back around 1986 and re-do it. Bill bought a new AMT Autocar Dump Truck when it first came out in 1972. He painted the neighbors fence to buy it of course I helped I was 3yrs old. The cab shied and front was bad so Ireplaced it with a Ertl one I had. Here’s somepics of the bed and truck in progress.

This week I was looking at this old Autocar build sitting on the shelf and decided to try to get this thing done. Not much left to do on it but to add some bits and pieces and some fresh touch up painting

I really like the look of where this is going. Looks like a heavy off road style rock truck, or a coal mine truck. With the extra large cab guard it looks to be a really stout heavy unit

Thanks Jeff I appreciate it. I was thinking the same thing when I added that Cab guard to Bill’s old Dump bed. Glad you stopped by.

Another subtle touch I noticed is the location of the air horn. That is old school cool as it is a single piece as is mounted to the side.  Ties in well with the exposed PTO and hand latch for the tailgate.  Old school details

Pete, good to see another post.  Every time I see a tough old brute like this Autocar, I can’t imagine what it must have been like to drive one!

Thanks Jeff I appreciate the compliment and noticing that air horn. I think I got the idea from the second issue of this kit where it shows the built model. That model kit was my first Autocar Dump truck kit. I was 16 years old when I got it. Thanks for mentioning the tailgate latch I will be adding that also I was going to leave it off but it will look better on as you stated. Keeping it old school

Brian thanks for dropping by. I’m sure this beast rode like that 1969 Brockway 360 dump truck I drove back when I was 25 years old hauling Asphalt and Rock. It had air assist steering no air seat and no AC and a hood you could land a small plane on 😂 but I really liked that truck.

Lee, I really like where this build is going and history of the parts, very cool

Thanks Gary I appreciate it and you stopping by. I had that dump bed in my parts box for many years but I never thought it would ever come back to life.

I really like the pics of this truck with just the engine and no rad or hood.  It looks like it is in the barn getting an ‘in frame’ and with the outside duals off that is even better. That could be a diorama all unto itself. 🤔

Yes Jeff I do too. I didn’t realize how cool it looked until months later 😂. It was really dusty when I took those pics.

Great to see it coming together after all this time. Gives me hope that I might finish some of mine! Good realistic choice of colours on the box and the cab. Are you going to use the square air cleaner?

You have so many great builds I was disappointed when I seen you haven’t been working on “Caboverdose” Hope to have this done soon not much left.

Looking at this more than once, the other thing that makes this truck look the part is the color and it is not super glossy but has that used look. Makes it look a realistic operator. Thats an extra free detail.
