ewetwo Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I purchase 2 Lindberg 1932 truck kits and neither had the axels. They were opened kits. I have some spares axels but they are not wide enough. I was thinking of using a finishing nail but I don't think they make them 3 inches long. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate the thoughts and ideas.
Muncie Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 1/16" diameter rod - cut to length - best to use a cutoff wheel on a Dremel - the hobby shop steel rod will damage cutting pliers. -- or use brass, and file the end smooth so it doesn't damage the wheel. The hobby shops and ACE hardware stores around here carry both.
ewetwo Posted August 24, 2020 Author Posted August 24, 2020 OK. Thanks for the info Steve. I'll call my Ace Hardware.
espo Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I have used "wire nails" to replace the axels. You can get a small plastic 1 oz. container at any home building supply store and they have any number of sizes. They don't have to go all the way through the differential housing to work. Most are 3/4" long but they do offer other sizes if needed.
Tom1963 Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Model train stores have metal rod in the size you will need.
ewetwo Posted August 24, 2020 Author Posted August 24, 2020 Thanks guys. I just ordered them from Ace. But was told they are being discontinued. Now I'm not sure if they meant the stores wouldn't carry them but the warehouse would.
mikemodeler Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, they have different diameters of wire from K&S in the hobby aisle.
