Gumball Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 This is another kit i picked up at the beginning of this year. I couldn't get my hands on the Maverick, but this is just as cool regardless. i swear this kit was complete, but seems to be missing one of the cylinder heads. So what do you do with a relatively rare kit (from what i hear) missing a detrimental part? My answer is to replace the original with something better, in this case putting two engines side by side, between the front wheels. Im not sure yet if Im going to completely scratch build the two engines from polystyrene, or use some of my old miscellaneous engines, however im unsure if id be able to find anything ford related.Â
Gumball Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 (edited) Small update. These engines happen to be Chevy engines out of a AMT dragster kit, however these engines are poorly detailed and in this case should pass as ford blocks. Edited September 15, 2020 by Gumball
cobraman Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Interesting project. I will be watching.
Gumball Posted September 16, 2020 Author Posted September 16, 2020 Still needs a whole heck of alot of work, and paint touch ups, far from what i would like to see as the final product. However it is starting to take some shape. hopefully i can find some matching superchargers, or matching tunnel ram intakes and really start to get this show on the road!
Gumball Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 just some updates, found some matching superchargers, and the engine still needs alot of work.
Gumball Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) Im going to start calling this "cant see squat" and yes still needs work, paint still drying as of posting this. Edited September 18, 2020 by Gumball

DonW Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I'm interested to see how you tackle the headers.

Gumball Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 Some small progress, mostly paint. Got rid of the 3" dia spark plug wires. Engine still needs alot of work, hopefully soon I can get my hands on some proper Moroso decals for the cylinder head covers.
Gumball Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 I know the fake Moroso on the cylinder heads, as well as the cylinder heads looks cheap, but I'm planning on adding enough detail (with exhaust and engine bay stuff) to kinda hide the fact that the engines are low on detail. In my defense I had to make the cylender heads the way they are due to the limited size in the engine bay. The cheap looking Moroso was done with a fine tip sharpie, as I am super low on 1/24-25th scale sponsor decals. I think the "Moroso" at least looks adequate for now, but weel have to see how I feel about it in the future.
Gumball Posted September 24, 2020 Author Posted September 24, 2020 Probably a far easier way of doing this but I'm committed
Gumball Posted September 24, 2020 Author Posted September 24, 2020 This is a pain, I'm just going to make my own decal and put one on.Â
Gumball Posted September 30, 2020 Author Posted September 30, 2020 Engine and radiator fitment update

But in all honesty I do agree they are far too big. I seem to do this alot, look at some random wire hanging around and think "eh looks about right" only to be wildly off later on. I actually did the same with the ignition wires. But hopefully if I find any smaller, more realistic wires lying around I'll cut those fuel hoses out and replace them with something better, but as of right now those wires is all I got.

John Pol Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 and if you want the fuel lines like braided all you do is run the solder over the file

Gumball Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 Update, fixes fuel lines, repainted the car, got the roll cage started, and even made some goofy hood hinges. And before you ask, yes I did manage to catch the rollcage on fire briefly... some days I suprise myself! The rollcage may look slightly large but I'll argue that it's not only the size I want it to be, but the size someone would want it to be taking such a tiny twin engine car down the track. I also managed to fit an electric fan from my parts bin 94 vette. I'll be figuring out soon how I'd go about making the big "can't see squat" decals.
