Faust Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Hey Guys! I was wondering how you do the nice, high-lustre polished brass of a brass-era car. I think I'd need a paint - foil wouldn't work over things like lanterns and the like. I wish there was a Molotow brass, but there isn't to my knowledge. I'm looking to duplicate the factory-fresh stuff, not with a patina on it. Thanks!
peteski Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I haven't done yet, but I was thinking that Alclad II Polished Brass over gloss black (or maybe other color) will give the polished brass finish. But it will likely be fragile like Alclad II Chrome. Or have them "chromed" (vacuum metalized) then spray them with clear yellow paint.
GeeBee Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I used Alclad brass on my Stutz Bearcat, the finish ended up looking like brass that hadn't been polished for a while, I've got the Revell Ford Model T to build soon, I'm going to use Mr Color brass on it, you don't need a black base and once it has dried you can buff if to the shine you want, it can be sealed using their clearcoat to protect the finish.
DFMoss Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 You might try thr AK Interactive True Metal paints. I used the brass on a sword hilt on a figure model and was quite pleased with it. https://ak-interactive.com/product/true-metal-brass/ Don

I’ve been quite curious about the AK True Metal paints. How do you apply it and polish it? How thick is it from the tube, and do you thin it?
DFMoss Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 It is a bit thick. I applied it with a brush and then polished a bit once it dried.
