tim08 Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 This car came up in conversation a day or two back. I got it at walgreens for about 10 bucks. To me the front grill and headlights look kind of funky. The engine, well, I'll just keep the hood shut. But otherwise it looks like a Nova to me. Looks ok on the shelf on a trailer behind my diecast 48 ford. Anyway, here it is.
randyc Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I detailed one of these for a friend. They have some funkiness going on for sure. Depends on the viewing angle as to what you see. But they do fill a gap for Novas if you look from a distance.
Snake45 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Thanks for posting those pics. To my eye the entire roof is wrong, as is the line of the rear fender. It's a shame we can't get a decent 3rd gen Nova in scale. The Revell kit has shape problems; the AMT has fit problems and the molds are shot, and it's not perfectly shaped either.
Geno Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Rich nailed it on the shape issues. Short of getting the DM versions which are spot on but have become pricey the Johnny Lightning versions are pretty darn close. Here's the DM & JL versions together.
Snake45 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Now, to me, the JL roof looks like it's chopped about an inch. The roof line looks a lot better. Not sure about the shape of the rear fenders but I think it would look better with that stripe removed. I'm watching for one of these on eBay now, but I'm not gonna pay a LOT of money for one. And even then, only because I haven't found very many diecasts worth owning locally lately. At least the JL comes with some cool wheels. After I Snake-fu the spokes, they'll look great.
tim08 Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 I see what you mean about the roof and quarters Snake. Both lines are just flat. I just blackwashed the wheels and put it on a trailer. The two that Geno has look much better. I do have the body and other parts of the Old Pro Nova. Im gonna have to dig that out sometime and fiddle with it. Thanx guys
Dave Van Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I got that one.....just some detail paint........door window frames bug me
Geno Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 You're welcome Tim, keep us posted on the Old Pro Nova. I remember building that kit when i was a kid.☺️
Snake45 Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Well, I just let a JL Nova go on eBay. It would have cost me just over $40 with shipping. I decided I didn't want/need one that much. If I run into one at the local toy show for $20, maybe $25, I'll come home with it. Meanwhile, my JL '66 Nova, I generally like it, but am not a fan of the flame paint job. Someday I will disassemble and repaint it. If it's going to have flames, I think it needs MUCH bigger tires in the back and the rear end jacked up a bit.
Geno Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 (edited) I hope you find one Rich, I did remove the pinstripes on both the white and blue versions, i also detailed the front grilles to make them look more appropriate. Edited December 29, 2020 by Geno
