Does anyone know if an aftermarket grill is available for the AMT 1970 1/2 Camaro that doesn't include the z28 script?

I'm sure some of you are skilled enough to remove the molded script without ruining the rest of the grill :)

thoughts?

The problem is the emblem goes the full depth, so once you remove the emblem down to the level of the grille bars, you still need to remove the remainder from the openings which the emblem covers...which means opening all the holes.

As John suggested, I think hogging out the entire grille mesh and replacing it with the photoetched piece from Model Car garage is the best solution: https://www.modelcargarage.com/eshop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=291

On second thought, I should've asked which AMT '70.5 Camaro Z/28 grille you are asking about. While the Z/28/RS style grill is the same style as the '70.5 Baldwin -Motion SS 454 kit's grille, save for the differing emblems, the more recent full-bumper AMT '70.5 Z/28 kit's grille is slightly different, and I'm not sure the Model Car Garage photoetched grill inserts will fit inside the grille shell properly. Not sure if anyone has actually tried that yet, but if you have, let us know how the parts fit, please.

The split-bumper Z/28/RS and Baldwin-Motion SS 454 grilles have a vertical rub strip over the center peak, like so...:

...while the '70.5 split-bumper Z/28's grille does not:

I'm guessing the MCG pieces will be a bot short where they meet at the peak, but maybe the designed accounted for removal/elimination of the center rub strip when using these pieces?

I have both kits, the Orange z28 (split bumper) from a few years ago, and I just picked up the reissue with the full bumper.  I started the original (split bumper) last night. with thoughts of doing something "less Z28".   I haven't looked at the grill on the new release yet (full bumper).  It didn't even occur to me to look for the Model Car Garage photoetch set; nor did it occur to me that the actual grill might be different between the two kits.

I guess I should research 1970 / 1970.5 Camaro options a bit ....

Other than the rub-strip , the grille appears to be the same regardless of RS or 'Standard' ; the bezel looks the same , too .

The vertical rub strip I mentioned above is not present on the full-bumper version:

I wouldn't even feel same assuming the grille surrounds are the same, considering the differences between the real versions, not to mention the heavy tweaking Round2 did to the front of the body on the full-bumper version.

I don't think the real grilles are the same between RS and non RS, as the RS grille has the big rubber bumper surround, but I'm not sure about that at all.

If I wanted the Z/28 emblem gone, I could remove it. But I realize that not everyone could.

Maybe getting a second grille, cutting both down the middle, and using the two passenger sides? Dunno if that would work or not, just a suggestion.

The more that I thought about it , I thought the same thing . It looks like a symmetrical piece after all...

My assumptive-assertion was based upon the grille and its surrounding brightwork (not the grille cutout itself) appearing to be similar between the RS and the standard facia . I cannot attest to the 1:1 being that way ; I'm only comparing the kits' items .

Mea culpa ; I'd neglected to mention the absence of the centre rub strip of the RS on the 'regular' grille .
