Chuck Most Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Patty had her kittens about 8am this morning. I'd post a pic but she had them in a 4" gap behind a cabinet so I can't really see them right now, but I can definitely hear them. Mom and the babies seem to be doing A-OK. 4 1
Chuck Most Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Can't see the third one but it looks like the gray one. They're so loud for something so small. 𤣠5 2
Chuck Most Posted April 9 Posted April 9 There are actually five! Four black and gray ones plus the oddball orange and white one. 𤣠I now have a cat bed set up in there, along with food and water for mom. 6 1

Some momma cats will scour the house looking for a safe spot to give birth. They prowl all over to find a quiet place a few days before the event. I've had them move kittens to more secluded spots if they get too much attention. You wake up and momma found better digs for them. Most will let trusted people handle them, which is essential to socializing them. 3

She's cool with me putting a straggling kitten back on the pile. 𤣠She's honestly more relaxed than normal the last couple days. She was with the kittens a solid 24 hours in one sitting, before she headed outside to "take care of some business". 2 1

They need to get used to people. Are you keeping them? I fostered a momma cat years ago, she had 5 kittens and I found homes for them. 1
Chuck Most Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Not sure what the plan is. Patty is probably getting fixed once she and the kittens are ready. After that not decided on keeping them or rehoming. 2
Chuck Most Posted April 11 Posted April 11 She has the nice cushy cat bed but for now she's staying under the old TV cabinet. 𤣠I mean, I guess it works for her.  Also, check out those incredible whiskers. 5 2

Chuck Most Posted April 11 Posted April 11 The one facing the camera was hissing at me. What a frightening, ferocious beast. š¤£š¤£ 5 1 3
bobss396 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Some hiss very early, out of instinct. Amazing even before the eyes open up. Which is is about at 2 weeks old... and they start walking. Or try to. See if you can sneak an old towel or bath mat under the dresser. They will be much warmer. Wipe up 1/2 the area at a time, fold and lay down the towel. Momma will not be happy if you move them out, but might tolerate it for a minute. Place them in a box works, but give momma access to them. Edited April 12 by bobss396 1 1

bobss396 Posted April 13 Posted April 13 When my son picked up our Ivan at 6 weeks old, he was spitting and hissing something fierce. He put him inside his coat and he quieted down.Ā Once home he was introduced to real cat food and kitten formula. But he would still hide when we came to feed him. He would eat, crawl up in my lap, purr and fall asleep after. He was an interesting kitten. 1

Chuck Most Posted April 15 Posted April 15 They're actually beginning to resemble cats. 𤣠They didn't even hiss this time, although Patty got between me and them. So I started petting her then the kittens and she was like "okay. I'll allow it" 𤣠This is the first time the orange one wasn't on the bottom of the pile as far as I remember. 5 1
bobss396 Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Keep an eye on the Orange Sherbert one. I had only one...but it was by far the most adventurous kitten I ever had. It was all over the place by 2 weeks old.
Chuck Most Posted April 17 Posted April 17 She moved them from the upstairs closet to the bedroom. Which is fine, but did she need to do it at 3:15 in the morning? 𤣠1 1

Sometimes you can catch the momma cat doing recon. Usually she goes out right after they are fed, quiet and sleeping. If there is a lot of people looking and touching them, they sense a threat and will move them to more secluded digs. Once they become mobile, all bets are off. 1
Chuck Most Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Well she wasn't that stealthy, I knew what was going on because for whatever reason she hopped up on my bed in the process and landed on my ankle. 2
