Repstock Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 I'm planning an early '70s Winnebago Chieftain. I have all the reference I need except a good look at the underside. I have drawings, but nothing beats looking at the real thing. I've only found one in my area, and the owner refused to let me take any pics. My only option, it seems, is to network. If anyone can help, my E-mail is cmhjets@outlook.com. It's a longshot, but who knows? Thank you in advance!
Oldcarfan27 Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 I just looked up "Winnebago chassis" on search and came up with some bare chassis illustrations, mostly for newer rigs. My guess is, you could use a simple ladder-frame truck chassis and be good. It's not like many of us would be crawling under one to verify if yours is nuts and bolts correct anyway. My first thought was to use the 1/25 ALF fire pumper or the Monogram 1/32 Mack fire truck as the base, depending on your scale. Hope this helps.
vincen47 Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 This will be a great project. Looking forward to seeing it come together. Wish I could help, but my only suggestions would be what is already described above. I’m sure you could also search for Chevrolet or Ford motorhome chassis photos from that era, as they supplied the platform for Winnebago and other manufactures. There’s also the website classicwinnebagos.com that could be a good resource. Wouldn’t let you take photos? I understand that it may be an odd request, but taking a few pictures wouldn’t hurt anyone or anything. Besides, I’m sure you offered an explanation for your request.
Rodent Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 This 1973 brochure talks about a 413 cubic inch engine, so it (obviously) would be on a Dodge chassis. https://www.rvroundtable.com/wp-content/uploads/winnebago/1973/1973.Chieftain.pdf
