The one holy grail I paid real money for.. the ultra rare 66 Valiant promo.

I always wanted one and each time one would come up for bid on eBay it wasn’t a good time for me to indulge myself.. so I’d pass.

So about a dozen years ago this one pops up. Again, it wasn’t a good time for me.  Then I thought about it.. when would be a good time? Maybe never! So I hit that Buy it Now button for something like $400!  And I’m glad I did!

I did something similar a dozen or so years ago when I paid around $300.00 for a mib Johan ‘61 Plymouth Fury.

Other than that, I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $150.00 or $175.00 for a kit, and that includes some pretty rare stuff, including Johan “flat box” Plymouth Fury’s from ‘64- ‘67, and Chrysler 300s from ‘62- ‘68.

Speaking of old kits, does anybody know what happened to the One-Arm-Bandit's molds?  Any chance it will ever get reissued?

The kits I scored years ago had bad decals, so I will make my own.  While I was designing the artwork (based on the scan of my damaged sheet) I realized that the scroll-work does not match boxart.  The decal's corner scrolls are larger than what the boxart shows.  So I modified the artwork to make them more closely match the boxart.  I have printed some test samples, but the final product is still ways off.

Hello Pete.. I mistakenly mention in an earlier post that the kit I scored had a set of good decals, I was wrong that was another kit prior, there is no decals. So I'll be looking to buy a set ?, like that will ever happen or possibly hand painting the decals. I loved to know how you make out with your final results.

LOL Mike, I have too many hobbies (and projects)!  Started the decal project several years ago, but it competes with other projects (I'm a bit "look, a squirrel"  kind of a person), so I can't give you any timeline when I'll have the project completed.   Actually most of the artwork is done, but I wanted to add few more items to the sheet (beyond what was on the original).  Let me see if I can revisit the project and see what I can do.

I dug up some early test prints (before I resized the corner scrolls).

Hey Pete.. Thank you for taking the time to showing your work, they look pretty professional! Bravo.. This decal printing might be something I need to look into, I've got a few older kits with questionable decals. ?°°squirrel.. ? I'm the there goes the shiny ball guy. Thanks again for sharing. Mike

Thanks Mike.

Actually you made me dig out my decal tests and look at the artwork.  I started it back in 2011!!  I do my own printing on the old Alps MicroDry printer, so I can do metallic inks.  The artwork design is what takes the longest. There are many hours of time spend in Corel Draw creating that artwork.  It is a hobby unto itself.

?shame on me for twisting your arm..? No seriously I can relate to the time consumed in your artwork and your builds just by your Masterpiece builds in the gallery. Top notch!! Your attention to detail is phenomenal. Way beyond my abilities! If you happen to accidentally make to many copies of those Bandit decals I'd be eager to hear your suggestions, as long as its not "go pound sand" ?°° well I guess that would be acceptable too...

Not at all Mike - I actually welcomed revisiting this half-finished old project.  Not sure when, but I will eventually get the artwork finished and printed.  I have no problem printing extra copies for the interested parties.  I guess this thread is good place to post an update when the decals are finished.

I'll be watching!!  Meanwhile I've got some sloppy old paint to remove from my Bandit kit that arrived by mail today. It's like Christmas all over again.. Thanks again for entertaining questions... Look squirrel!! ? sorry I couldn't resist.

Mike..✌?

Another one popped up in my automatic search.  This one was in Switzerland, shrink-wrapped and sold very fast for $400 (and $41 shipping cost to USA)!

Impressive what people will pay for this kit.

Good Morning Pete.. I'm sure you got a notification this morning from eBay too if you still have The One-Armed Bandit kit notifications still on. Decals look like trash but all else looks good with only a few painted parts. Complete.. Let the bidding begin! ?

Yup, I did see this one.  It has couple small parts missing, and of course bad decal. We'll see how  high the bidding goes. Good luck!
