kensar Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 I've been following this project for a while now and must say it's quite ambitious. Great work!
absmiami Posted May 22, 2024 Author Posted May 22, 2024 So i’ve sanded and filed some Evergreen tube on a Foredom handpeice - this is the body of the scroll shaped water pump …

The car was shared with William Eager and a minor crash on lap 67 forced them to retire. (Maserati A6GCS by Walter Baumer and Jean-Francois Blanchette) Regards Dave B Dave fr way down under has had me thinking for months …
absmiami Posted June 19, 2024 Author Posted June 19, 2024 From the Walter Baumer collection - with his permission …. You can tell that the wheels have been painted white - even in the bl wh photo …. Thank you Dave B - and thanks to Mr Baumer …
absmiami Posted June 19, 2024 Author Posted June 19, 2024 We interrupt this thread to bring you a Scarab - for no particular reason -
absmiami Posted June 20, 2024 Author Posted June 20, 2024 The cyl head still needs alot of work - rob Bentley’s smallest bolts have short stems - so it takes some practice to use them - without losing them - i’m trying different schemes - with some success …
absmiami Posted June 20, 2024 Author Posted June 20, 2024 The through bolts that attach the head to the block ring the deck of the cyl head - and appear to use some sort of acorn nut fastener - the engine used twin plugs - so I’ve marked guide lines for the center and approximate plug hole locations - 12 plug holes and 14 holes for the head bolts - this took a while -
absmiami Posted June 22, 2024 Author Posted June 22, 2024 The cyl head deck has two water pipes - the return / on the right - and the intake - from the pump which is mounted behind the generator on the left hand side of the block … to the left hand side of the deck - wrestling with how to make the pipes - brass might be best - but I’m trying to carve them out ot Evergreen strip first …
absmiami Posted June 22, 2024 Author Posted June 22, 2024 The pipes are slender - this first one is a bit overscale but seems to look okay within the head -
absmiami Posted June 22, 2024 Author Posted June 22, 2024 The pipes bolt to the deck on flanges - made fr .015 x .080 strip - glued to the deck - followed by gluing in the left side cyl head bolts - these are RB Motion acorn nuts … on to the right side of the deck …
MarkJ Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 As I've heard around here. Yup. This certainly deserves a big one. Going to be another fabulous build.
kensar Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Very nice work. Scratchbuilding an engine is something I have yet to do. The acorns look good.
absmiami Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 Thanks to Mark J - and K - when you fashioned the water pump on the GT engine - you must have had a moment when you looked at the rest of the engine and thought - what the heck -I’ll just make my own …
absmiami Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 And here are the bolts and flanges on the right hand side of the deck …
absmiami Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 Ok - so now i’ve got the right side water return pipe done - it has to curve past the outline of the timing chain cover - and i’ve managed to get some more RB .015 bolts onto the inspection plates in the cyl head …
absmiami Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 I go over to Naples at least once a yr - usually more - to spend a morning at the Rev’s Collection - renamed - but still owned by the Collier family - every time i walk by “Le Monste”, I swear, it winks at me …
