Soonerthunderdad Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Hello from Oklahoma. I used to build 1/25s back when I was a kid and then sports took over. Life moved forward 20 years and now I have an amazing 8 year old boy who asked for his own builds without me even knowing! My wife and mother bought him an AMT '63 Sting Ray Split Top Street Rods Edition (lv2), AMT '68 Shelby GT-500 (lv2), AMT '70 Chevy Chevelle SS (lv2), AMT Batman Batmobile (lv2) with Batman figure, Revell '66 Shelby GT350H (lv4) and a Revell '65 Chevy Stepside Pickup 2n1 (lv4). I know 8 can be young but I want to give him a solid foundation of the processes of modeling now that he's showing interest. He chose to do the '63 split first so once we start on that I'll post a build.
Kromolly Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Welcome Jordan! It's great to see kids taking an interest in the hobby and doing hands-on creative work. Good for you and others in his life for encouraging him.
TransAmMike Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Welcome Jordan, a lot to be learned here, a lot of great helpful posters. Those kits for your son to build can be a bit challenging tho, I'm sure some on here would agree a good start would be a snap together kit as a start.
hedotwo Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Welcome Jordan! Good for you to introduce your grandson to the hobby. I have six grandsons (all over 18 now) and tried to interest each of them to modeling at one time or another and only one continued on. It's not easy to get them going with a hobby that requires patience and is somewhat slow. Too many easy distractions today for them. Good luck and hope to see some of your builds.
