Ceaser_Salad Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Hello, I recently got a set of brake calipers for my 1968 Camaro z28. I also ordered the spark wire and distributor set from Morgan Automotive Detailing. Neither of these came with instructions, so I have no clue what I am meant to do with them. I understand where they go, but for the discs/calipers they seem huge and don't really fit on anything behind the wheels. The spark set has multiple parts for the distributor, one of which I just cannot identify. It has the actual distributor, its rod and the spark plug boot material, but then this other small piece that doesn't seem to fit anywhere. Hopefully someone here can help me out? Thank you, That extra red piece is what I am confused about
TransAmMike Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) I'll be the first. If you are building the Z stock the distributor is not an HEI distributor to the best of my knowledge. Doesn't mean you can use it tho but what you do with it will be different. What you call rod is actually larger gage insulated wire and is to be used for the plug wire boots. You are only going to be using the insulator if you do the boots. I just trim off a small bit of the insulator at one end, grip the exposed wire with a pliers, and grip the other end with you thumb and finger and slowly pull the insulator off the wire. Usually it comes out pretty easily. So you can get an idea of what a HEI distributor looks like google it. You will see the flat piece over the wires on the distributor. Just don't use that part for a regular distributor. Hopefully I have helped. Others I'm sure will chime in. Good luck Edited April 24, 2021 by TransAmMike

I really didn't plan on making anything particularly accurate, so I am ok with having the wrong distributor. I am glad you told me about that top piece, I was considering just going without it, but it actually makes sense to me now. Apologies for my incorrect usage of words as well. Thanks for the tips

Thanks for the tips No problem at all. Hope you understand about the wires. I don't know about the calipers. I'm thinking in scale the rotors are just too big for the 14 or 15" Camaro wheel.
stitchdup Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 You'll probably find the pegasus brakes are for big diameter rims so you might be better just using the calipers on some appropriately sized washers or even just making your own calipers to use on washers.

Yes, the Pegasus brake rotors and calipers are for their own wheels wich are larger like 18-19-20" but they will fit other large wheels, so they are too big for smaller stock style 14-15" wheels.
Ceaser_Salad Posted April 24, 2021 Author Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) Dang it, I really wanted those calipers for the car. Well nothing I can do about it then. Thanks so much for the info guys! Edited April 24, 2021 by Ceaser_Salad
