Academy Shelby Daytona Coupe - what ever happened to that?

Recommended Posts

About a hundred years ago, Academy announced they were going to release a Shelby Daytona Coupe in 1/24 scale.  Man, oh man, was I looking forward to that.   But, alas, nothing ever came of it - correct?

Scalemates says "unknown".

Any ideas?

I haven't heard anything about that kit either in almost a decade, I imagine it was a licensing debacle.

As far as Scalemates the "Unknown" just means there's no history information provided by whomever entered the kit into the database.  When editing the site, there are several choices under the drop down menu labeled "Origin" - Initial Release -New Tool, Rebox (Updated/Changed Parts), Rebox (New Decals), Rebox (Changed Boxart), Rebox (Unknown What Changed), Rebox (Model Set), and Unknown.

I wish they had used the ploy that they used for their Ferrari California kit-"European Sports Car".  Visualize "American 2 Door Race Car".

Same here.  Although when ol' Shelby was still alive, I'm sure he'd gone after them for that.

I was so looking forward to this kit. :(
