NOBLNG Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I picked these up recently at a closeout sale. They are made for lexan so I know I will have to clear coat them to get a glossy finish. What would be the best basecoat for them, especially the candy? White, silver, gold? I have two bottles of each which should be sufficient, but I want to keep my tests to a minimum. Thanks in advance.
Can-Con Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Just treat it like any other hot automotive lacquer. Whatever clear coat you usually use will work fine. They're just a hot lacquer, nothing special. What you use under them depends on what you want to end up with. Silver and gold are the most common choices but when I use a candy I like to use a light metallic version of the color under it. Metallic pink under red candy, light blue metallic under candy blue etc. You can get evener color that way ,, less blotchy and use less candy to get your final color. Here's that purple over a lavender metallic base I mixed up for it. You can also get different colors depending on your base. A gold base under candy blue will give a green or aqua color depending on how many coats of blue you put over it.
