junkyardjeff Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 I would like to put on steel rims on the mid 60s 34 Ford kit and was wondering if any Monogram kits from that era had any that would work.
larman Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Are you looking to fit the original tires? If so, The original Monogram '36 Ford has a set of stock steel wheels with center caps. If you are using modern tires, the Monogram Beach Boys '32 Ford Coupe and some later issues of the roadster have a nice set of chromed steel wheels that can be used with or without hubcaps.
junkyardjeff Posted May 24, 2021 Author Posted May 24, 2021 I wish that kit had other wheel option, its either the wires or the full flat covers. I want to build it as a late 40s hotrod if possible using vintage parts.
Richard Bartrop Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 A little outside of your time, but the ones on Revell's '40 Ford look great, and are just about the right size. Here they are on a Monogram '36 Ford.
ChrisBcritter Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 The Monogram '40 Continental has steelies with wide whites you could use; maybe put them in the rear and use the '40 Ford ones in front for a rake. There's also the original Monogram '40 Ford Pickup stock wheels and tires, but good luck finding a set. Maybe look for damaged Franklin/Danbury Mint cars from the period and take the wheels/tires from one you like?
junkyardjeff Posted May 25, 2021 Author Posted May 25, 2021 I do have a stock Danbury mint chassis with rims that I will have to look at,if I can not find some vintage Monogram parts they might get used. Will look into getting a 41 Lincoln parts car first.
