george 53 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Dave,my freind, that gloriuos day is still 13 days away,I hope your NOT planning to go anywhere before then, or you'll miss my own "Merry Christmas" greeting. Were you aware that Christ was born in the spring/summer?It's true, some Pope way back when changed his birthday back in the 12th century or so. Guess it was to mark a Pagan holiday, or some such thing. That's OK though, cause I truley believe He lives in ALL of our hearts, all year long. That goes for athiests too.Even if they don't believe in Him, He believes in them! Thank You my dear freind, and may you, and all my forum brothers and sisters have A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Well what we know IS true that December probably wasn't when Christ was born, and the current date did have some connections to a Pagan Holiday. However, some scholars who cross-refferenced a bunch of things suggest it was fall. Edited December 12, 2008 by CAL

I believe it was Pope Gregory the ???? something. He did it to make the church celebration coincide with the winter solstice so that the church celebration would try to replace the pagan celebration of the shortest day of the year. Politics as usual. Having said that I still wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. May the fridge be stuffed with great food, the living room be stuffed with great friends, and the model bench be stuffed with great plastic. Have a great celebration no matter what you celebrate.
Rob Hall Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I try and avoid the commercialism (and since I'm an atheist, the religous aspect) of the holiday, and just enjoy it as a few days off to spend w/ friends and family. I'll be flying back to Ohio Xmas eve this year..hopefully, the weather won't be horrid back there....then back to Phoenix for a few days then back to Colorado to spend New Years weekend w/ some friends.
CAL Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Yeah Cal - I agree, fall is probably closer Merry Christmas Cal to you and your family. Gos Bless - dave Thank you kindly sir, and Marry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

However, some scholars who cross-refferenced a bunch of things suggest it was fall. Somehow Christmas doesn't seem to work as well in the fall... A sleigh ride wouldn't be nearly as easy without snow!!! Anywho... Merry Christmas, happy Hannukah, happy Kwanzaa, a joyous winter solstice and P.O.E.G.W.T.M.
Farmer Wilding Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Well, being Australian, I'm quite accustomed to Christmas being in summer. Some Christmases I remember it being well over 100 degrees. back before the days of air conditioning, too. We'd have all the doors and windows open to try and lure any wandering breeze through the house, and unlimited ice cream and lemonade were always on the menu! Just thinking of it now reminds me of playing with my new Matchbox cars on the hall carpet so I could have the coolest spot in the house next to the front door. Then there was that year I'll never forget, when Auntie Grace gave me a Revell Datsun 240Z kit - guess what I did THAT afternoon? Anyway, whatever time of year that first Christmas happened, I'm sure glad that it did! Merry Christmas to you all, and to your families!
Daniel Peterson Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I want to chime in and wish those who celebrate Christmas a very merry and safe holiday. I extend the same wish to those who celebrate other high holidays of their own during this season. And if you celebrate nothing during these coming weeks, at least celebrate your family and your friendships. I intend to have a great Christmas in spite of a very bad year so far. The good has managed to outweigh the bad, and get this straight...whether you showed a model that knocked my socks off, or made a brilliant point in an otherwise ridiculously annoying thread, or even sparked a meaningful dialog about some element of the hobby, everyone on this board has managed to contribute a little bit to the good. Thank you for that, and yes...Merry Christmas.
