Theo Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Hi all, Having trouble with clear coat through airbrush not laying down into acute angles. For example where prominent trim moulding meet the main body the clear seems to be “tenting” such that if I press into the angle to burnish BMF the clear cracks and flakes away. Flat and contoured areas are fine with smooth sheen unpolished; and no issues with color coats. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Spraying through a Paashe H with PSI between 15 and 20 same as color coats. A couple of medium coats followed by wet coats until desired gloss as per instructions. Thanks for any responses Theo
John Pol Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 what size needle because I use the same airbrush for my clear coats and how close are you to the model and do you do mist coats before heavy coat
Theo Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 Hey John, Using the H3 needle and tip. No mist coat, but the first couple of coats are medium then wet coats (this suggested by the vendor). Maybe 2-3 inches from the model. thanks
peteski Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 What brand/type of clear coat? What is the clear-to-thinner ratio? Just saying "clear" does not provide acomplete picture.
Theo Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 Hi peteski It is 500 Clear from Scalefinishes. It is prethinned, airbrush ready so nothing added. Used both his Lacquers and Enamels with great results. The issue occurred clearing Lacquer colors. thanks
John Pol Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 when I do clear threw the airbush I shoot ti at 15 PSI and almost 6 inches from model
Dave G. Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Sometimes to get a product to settle into corners and recesses you need to shoot it at various angles. But I've never shot that specific clear so can't say a whole lot.
