I always wanted a model of the little VW from the old Disney movie. About 10 years ago I found a cheap die-cast for € 10,00 - the Volkswagen beetle from the 1/24 Quattroruote collection - a model in the correct color with good proportions, apart from a too-low windshield.

I thought this would be a good base for a Herbie conversion (already with the US-style bumpers), ordered decals from Patto, made license plates from thin aluminium sheet,fabricated a canvas top from plastic sheet, steel wire and medical tape, and after a few hours of fun: voilà - Herbie (may not be correct in every detail, but it looks the part).
