So I I bought these aluminum tanks from a well known supplier of model truck parts. Advertised as aluminum tanks . They kinda look like they are wrapped in bare metal foil. Do you see it or is it just me???  Would you find this acceptable?

I have some like that ,just sand the ends down and then polish .

You think they are solid aluminum?

Do the parts have a clear protective film on them?

I thought that at first but no… no covering

How heavy is it? If it was me making it, I'd use a solid rod to cur it from. Far easier than fabricating end covers. It doesn't have the typical lathe marks on it but it could be well polished.

It appears to be aluminium tubing with end caps, hence the waviness and distortion visible on one of the end caps. You can still see the weld seam along the tank's longest axis, from when the tube was originally formed, so it doesn't appear the tube has been turned down at all, just polished.

I watched the video, and have a question- did you prime over the Auslowe tank as it came to you? Whatever material was used to cover the plastic cylinder was sprayed right over with primer?

Was a there a visible seam along the length of the tank which was visible? Metal ductwork tape is much thicker than BMF or similar and it would be difficult, if not near impossible to hide a mating seam.

Solid aluminum rod isn't difficult to procure, and since you mentioned you have a lathe, well, there's your solution. ?

I have no answers to those questions…I didn’t make the video….only putting it out there for informational reasons. The point is the tanks are not aluminum.
