James W Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 (edited) Found this really cool idea for a model Civil Defense siren. Big Daddy pulling the throttle linkage! Edited December 20, 2008 by James W
Aaronw Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I love the old civil defense sirens. When I was a kid I remember hearing them tested occasionally, it seems like nobody uses them any more though. I hope those guys don't have neighbors, running one of those in your garage is a good way to get you on the least liked neighbors list in a hurry.
Smart-Resins Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Very cool. Me being a wee bit younger then those days of the sirens I always wondered what pushed it. Now I know! Cool. Jody
Art Anderson Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Found this really cool idea for a model Civil Defense siren. Big Daddy pulling the throttle linkage! I remember sirens like that! When I was in college, in Fairfield IA back in the 60's, that town had the only fire department in all of Jefferson County. It was used, as much to summon volunteer firefighters as for any other purpose--there not being all that much concern about nuclear attacks in the land of cornfields, and the concept of using them to warn of a tornado hadn't hit yet. But, you could hear that siren for 15-20 miles. Art

One night around midnight they must have had a call because my girlfriend and I woke up to this gawdawful loud siren and the first thing we thought was its an air raid (not really sure who would be bombing June Lake, CA). A minute later I could hear a bunch of cars racing to the fire station and figured out what it really was. Heck of a way to wake up. Edited December 27, 2008 by Aaronw
Ronster Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Now THAT Hemi, complete with siren, would be cool in my A100!
