When you say "went textured" are you meaning the Tamiya primer reacted and possibly etched the styrene Hasegawa used in those particular kits. I applied the usual light check coat of Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 black and seems to be okay so far. That Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 black goes down really smooth Luke. Looking good. 1

But the real test against the Hasegawa plastic will be when I apply the SMS paints. I will take extra precaution and apply 3 separate rounds of 1500 black and letting it fully cure, that should seal in the styrene and prevent any reactions hopefully. Cool Hand Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Scribed, shaved the door handles, scripts and badges. Moulded in wiper delete. Reworked the moulded in tail light trim rings. Drilled out original holes and installed 4mm styrene tube, which was also drilled out to suit tail lights. 2 1
Cool Hand Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Thanks Bob. Also have applied the BMF before paint on the tail light trim rings, will be much easier to remove paint on the raised edge than trying to trim around each one. 3 1
Zippi Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Man oh man...that color looks striking on the 65 Impala Luke. 1
Cool Hand Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 Check coat of surfacer applied, painted the wheel centres and started to build an engine bay. 5

Cool Hand Posted July 16 Author Posted July 16 (edited) Pretty much finished the engine bay work, final details were a scratch built brake booster/master cylinder and drilling a locating hole for the ignition coil. Finalized the shape of the radiator support panel, attached some tabs for a radiator I found in my spare parts stash and attached some tubing for hose fitment. Currently doing prep work on the body, scribing done. Opening up the cowl vents by removing material from behind. Edited July 16 by Cool Hand 2
Cool Hand Posted Wednesday at 04:51 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 04:51 PM Finished opening and cleaning up the cowl vents. As I have done on previous builds. I cut off the heads of the moulded in rivet detail on the over fenders and drilled holes for replacement detail with Top Studio 0.5mm metal rivets. First stage of body prep done. Block sanded with 800 grit wet and dry paper and followed that with 1000 grit Infini sanding sponge. 4
Zippi Posted Wednesday at 04:59 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:59 PM Those rivets look pretty kewl Luke. 1

Cool Hand Posted Friday at 06:32 AM Author Posted Friday at 06:32 AM (edited) Body prep work complete, will let the first round of surfacer cure before I apply the 2nd round. After that has cured, I will apply the colour coat. Edited Friday at 06:32 AM by Cool Hand 2
Cool Hand Posted Friday at 06:38 AM Author Posted Friday at 06:38 AM While I wait for the surfacer to dry/cure on the Skyline, I got the 64 Malibu back on the bench to see if I can get it completed, not much to do just BMF and final exterior detail work. 2
