Has anyone tried to correct the flared  wheel openings of the Revell 79-83 Mercury Capri?  Revell never modified the Capri tooling to do the correct, flat profile wheel openings.  I want to do this modification.  Looks so much better than the flared openings.  Thanks.

Ok, I've got the Mustang version of this body but it's got the same flared Capri fenders. I don't think you've got enough meat there to just bust out the grinder and go at them. I would use thin strips of round Evergreen plastic to basically fill in the flares from behind. It will need to be at least 1/8 inch thick right to the edge of the wheel lip, maybe even a bit more in the rear since those flares are a bit wider.

I tried to highlight the area I'm talking about here in white.

Revell put the characteristics of both flares on the body, so they could use it in both kits.  They did something similar with their custom Camaro and Firebird (ignoring that the doors differ between those two) and again with their Monza/Sunbird body.

That said, I'd clean off the mold release on the body, rough up the backside of the flare, and fill it with epoxy putty before going at the flare itself.  And, I'd use a file and leave the Dremel tool on the sidelines for this exercise.  It looks do-able, just go slow.

I've thought of this very mod for some time now and here's the way I was looking to go about it. I haven't done it yet, so plans may change.

I planned on cutting the flares off flush with the fender and smooth it off. Then, at that point, deciding if the openings are too big or not, possibly closing the wheelwell gap with sheet plastic and then adding a thin trim piece to recreate the subtle flare.
