Tri-Chevies (amt 1/16)

Again a few old builts in-between: 2 scanned photos from 1987:

The 55 Bel air coupé was my very fist "real" car model, bought in 1982 immediately after the Peterbilt wrecker. The others followed shortly afterwards.

Back then our hobbyshops had the Matchbox/amt kits only both as Nomads, the 55 as a coupe and the 57 as a hardtop. So I bought 2 each, cut the roof off the 55 and glued it onto the 57 and vice versa - voilà: 3 body versions !

Here are the 55's (the first pic is from 1983, coupé is brush-painted,  the 2 others from 1985, spraypainted with auto-laquers).

 

Now the `57's: Photos from 1985 - all spraypainted with auto-laquers (the convertible = my 2nd of the series - was brush-painted 2 times, and finally oversprayed in a dark metallic blue).

No puttying, no polishing, no bare metal foil, trim brushed silver (Humbrol) - only a little parts-swapping (the blower on the Nomad is from mpc's 1/16  1963 Sting Ray).

They are all gone now, I only kept the '55 Bel Air coupé for sentimental reasons (disassembled, paint removed) - this will be restored some time.

A shame they are all gone.  In Australia, like you, we had a small range of kits available and only brush paints - spray cans were the same price as a kit! - so we had to make do as you have done so expertly.  I know you would enjoy looking back at your original work- it certainly looks very clean in these photos.  Can't say I have ever seen this many 1/16th AMT Chevies before!

Nice work. Interesting kits, I have one of each. My only real knock is on the stainless trim at the top of each of the quarters on the 57 Nomad that connect from the taillight to the rear side-windows. They seem to be short—something in between trim for a 150/210 and a Bel Air (Bel Air trim being the appropriate trim for the Nomad.) Shouldn't be too hard to correct, but curious, as they got it right on the convertible and hardtop kits. Anyhow, loved seeing your examples.

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys - I really appreciate that.

20 years ago, I let my two girls play with these models in order to prevent them from attacking my truck models...

3 or 4 years ago, I sold the remains off to another modeler who wanted to rebuild/restore (?) them, together with my other 1/16 cars ('55 and '57 T-Bird, '57 and '63 Corvette and Cobra 427 S/C).
