why does this kit have 2 different styles of front spindles?

no they are not..

Then the parts not shown are probably from earlier versions of the kit, and not usable anymore.

I think an additional pair of lowering spindles was added when the Rides Magazine version was released.

Are these the two spindles in question, at the top of the image next to the disc brake rotors?:

Just a guess....but could they be for different ride heights? Maybe post a photo?
