I am considering using 0.50mm striping tape for door lines (flat black) and chrome trim (chrome if possible). I have seen finger nail decorating tape this narrow in both these colors, but I am concerned about how well it will bend (wrinkling around curves) and adhesive durability. I have never tried scribing door and panel lines and thought this might be an alternative. Any comments, thoughts, or how-to's very welcome!

I wouldn't use it for shut lines, its a little thicker than bmf so probably wont sit down in them very well but a soft pencil (b or hb) run along the lines works and the excess wipes off the edges. I think the adhesive should be durable as its meant for finger nails and they take a lot of abuse. It also has the benefit of being designed for use under clear. I haven't tried it for trim or around corners but i think corners would work but again the thickness might make it unsuitable for trim, especially if it has fine details. On the plus side if you order from china you can get 25 rolls for about $3 with free shipping in various colours and metal patterns such as engine turned, delorean style stainless and a variety of other finishes

Thanks for the info, Les. I was actually looking to use it in place of a scribed line. I have a project with a lot of filler where the door lines would be, and my experience is that the filler tends to chip. The tape itself would be chrome trim, not planning to use it over scripts or emblems.  Any chance you could forward me info for the Chinese company?

I got it on amazon, just type in nail striping tape and you should get hundreds of options. If the trim is pretty plain it might work, the trim with lots of fine detail probably wont.

Never heard of this stuff until now. Just googled it, looks like an interesting product, and sure is cheap. But every where the stuff is for sale, it is packages of 10 or more random colours (and possibly widths). Has anyone seen a site where one can specify colour and width?
