In my experience (judging by the questions that are repeatedly asked in new threads) pinning doesn't seem to help people to find answers.  But I guess if not for anything else, it would make it easier to members who answer those repeated questions to find the thread in question and point the person asking to the appropriate thread.

But then how war do we take this?  We will eventually end up with 20-30 pinned threads.

In general, we do not combine older threads. As it is, many folks will skip over older threads when they pop up in a search. A plus to this site is that the separate threads will provide multiple hits when people search for a topic and this may draw new members here.

Sometimes, we will combine newer threads on the same subject. This usually happens when people rush to start whats in the box threads for new kits and death notices when someone passes.

Please continue to report threads you feel should be combined, as we do review every request, but do not be surprised, or upset, if they are left separate.

I didn't ask that they be combined.

I asked they they be pinned.

Last time I checked, those two words had entirely different meanings, but in today's rapidly devolving lexical environment it's hard to be certain.

Many of the existing pinned threads are about advanced techniques...door and hood hinges, stripping chrome, scribing and highlighting panel lines...that have wide appeal to builders wanting to go farther than the average.

Questions about replacement "glass" come up frequently, and as these two threads have different material, but together pretty well contain everything anyone needs to know about MAKING replacement "glass", pinning them...NOT COMBINING...would save considerable time for those of us who repeatedly seek them out to refer the search-challenged to.

Sorry, had combining on the mind as I was also answering a question about that.

We are picky about adding more pinned threads since we also get the occasional "I don't like having to scroll through all the pinned posts" complaint. This is especially true of folks who use their phones to access the site.

The mods have had several discussions about how we can have more threads, such as these, organized and more easily found. Dave is going to look at the capabilities of the software to see if it has options to better categorize threads that we would normally pin. Something along the lines of putting the pinned threads in a separate sub-category that members must click on to navigate to it. It is on the long list of potential changes that we are looking into.

A short term workaround is to follow a thread that you like. That way you can search your followed content, accessible from your member profile, to quickly find a thread.

Maybe a better one from my perspective would be to just stop bothering to answer questions.
