cruz Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 OH!!!! So you thought I had forgotten??? Just a mock-up of the rake it will more or less have, next is the paint and the interior details!!! See you in the next installment!!!!
Custom Hearse Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Looks great Marcos! I've been wondering how it's been going. I've put mine aside for the time being, due to lack of time to work on it. The undercarriage is nice, but the wheels and tires are excellent! Keep up the great work!
cotto Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Good to see you back man, love the stance on that thing. The white walls really set it off too.
cruz Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Okay guys, I have been in the house since Monday and decided to put some time on this project. Yesterday I painted the body and it is currently drying in the dehydrator as I speak. I will be adding the clear soon so this is more of a live broadcast. If anything fails I will be humiliated right in front of all you guys!!! I will be using this Odds and Ends Pink Pearl Clear that I bought at Michael's, I think it will go just right with this Mica Red from Tamiya, at least I hope. This is how the body came out!!! Wish me luck!!!!!!!!
cruz Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 WOW!! I must admit, never thought this thing would come out with this shade of pink!!! I thought it would have a slight touch of the pearl but it changed a lot of the original color. While I am not too fond of this color my wife says she loves it. I will keep it as is. probably, by the time I buff it and bare metal foil it, it will look a little better. Hope you guys like it, comments are welcomed, good or bad, specially bad!!!!
racer13 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Yep, that changed the color a little! I can see that this will be one perfected Starliner. Stellar work Marcos!
Custom Hearse Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Why is it wives always like pink? Still.... it does make it different. Hopefully the buffing process will darken it a little. Excellent work Marcos.
jbwelda Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 i wonder what would happen if you sprayed some clear red over that? looks nice and that color it is might grow on you...
MrObsessive Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Whatsamatter Bro?? That looks great!! I'd throw some clear on it.............maybe tinted with some red, foil 'er up,------do the interior white and call 'er done! It's a mild custom so no one else will have that unique color on the table!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I agree, that color is going to stand out! Great progress, buddy. Keep it going.
cruz Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Well, I decided to call her the Mary Kay liner, think it would fit it just right. I guess I will keep her like that, I am already imagining her with all the foil and the polishing done. Sexy!!!!!!!
george 53 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 HOOO Boy, Marcos, is that thing PINK! or what? Mary Kaye Pink is a little lighter in shade, I think the red undercoat is whats makin it darker. I'm not crazy about pink on cars.We used to do a 75 car run, every year for Mary Kaye. After the first 5/6 cars you started gettin a headache! She even had Cadillac put her name on the color! It's comein out nice, but DON'T let Cap'n Blaque see it, He'll propably have a STROKE!!!!
roadhawg Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 She even had Cadillac put her name on the color! Elvis had a pink cadillac......and I didn't even realize he SOLD Mary Kay cosmetics! I think it looks unique! It'll certainly get attention!
cotto Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I don't know, I think i kinda like it. I am sure that once you polish that thing and foil it the way you know how to foil it will definetly take shape. It will be something different on the contest tables for sure. What color are you using for the interior?

Dave Wood Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 It will be insignia white with the dash a slightly darker shade of the same pink. Marcos it looks great so far, back when I did mine it was the earlyer first issue the body trim was good, I guess with the latest issue the mold is a little worn. The Head light buckets from Norm are worth the wait. I was gonna try to cut them out of another grill But used norms and alcladed them. Looking foward to seeing yours! BTW dont ya just love those Backwords 4bbl Carbs!! I went with the Tri Power set up. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
cruz Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Okay fellas, Mary Kaye just died!!! Dumped this thing into the purple pond. Tried polishing it and started getting these awful shadows all over. I like to use the Dawn Power Dissolver and as you can see, in a matter of two days it's showing its plastic skin already. As you can see by this picture of the hood, the shadows are clearly visible. I polished the right side of the hood and no, I didn't rub through the clearcoat, it's just that this clear was not very cooperative when it came to wet-sanding or polishing. I also bought the headlight buckets that will be installed in the photo-etch grill. These of course are from the best resin caster in the whole entire universe, Norman Veber!!!
MrObsessive Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 NOOOOOO!!! You killed Mary Kaye!! I fully understand Bro! I've stripped my share of bodies in my modeling life! So what other color did you have in mind Cruz?
Ron Hamilton Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I see that you used my suggestion, Cruz. I use Dawn Power Dissolver to remove all of the old enamel paint jobs from my old restorables. It works better than anything else I tried on enamel. The stuff will rip your skin off if you don't use gloves. I'm waiting to see what color you go with now. Ron
cruz Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Sorry for taking so long to respond guys. I am thinking about using a dupli-color shade of red for this, forgot the name of the color Hopefully I won't have to be sorry again after going with this color......
cruz Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Okay guys, after much "dissolving" I decided to use a Dupli-color" shade of red, I forgot what color it is, when I get home I will tell you. I am planning to go with a Pearl White roof for now and adding the clear and polishing phase soon once it's dry.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I like the color. Nice. Did you know that Duplicolor is now putting out a line of their paint in quarts? I mention it because they have their infamous Glitter Effex in quart sizes, ready to spray, but if you are using an airbrush you need to reduce it . . . .
cruz Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 Okay, the clear is added onto this thing. Went with a Tamiya Pearl White for the roof. Wet-sanding and polishing are the next steps, this thing is pretty rough. After that, BMF and Photo-Etching scripts and emblems are in order. Wish me luck fellas!!! There's a nasty little speck of dust or something right in the middle of the roof, it luckily happened just after my last shot of the clear coat so it's nothing that my sanding kit won't be able to take care of, I hope
