I'm sure most of you have encountered this scenario before.

A friend who is often approached to help dispose of model railway collections, has been asked to help by a modeller's widow to shift a collection that contains both. The railway side isn't a problem and the unbuilt kits, cars and aircraft mainly, can go at a swap meet.

Where we need help is with the builtups, cars and planes. Is there any sort of market for these? There's loads of them, the attached images give an idea.

Any help gratefully received!

Thanks

steve

There's a pretty good market for builtups on eBay as "rebuilders", and they usually bring decent money, but not a lot unless they're something really rare, like clean adult-assembled early '60s cars. I've bought loads of them, as the prices are considerably less than unbuilt kits, for interesting subject matter.

Far as built aircraft go, I really don't know...but it looks like he has some very interesting and unusual planes in there, and I'd think there'd be a market for most of them among connoisseurs, again accessible through eBay.

I've sold oddball stuff all over the planet through eBay, and you can't beat it for reaching a global market.

theres afew places that sell second hand kits in the uk. it may be worth trying kingkit as they usually have a good selection of second hand kits and may be interested in built ups but i wouldn't really expect much for them on this side of the pond. the us market is much better for built ups but i'm sure there will be some that will surprise you if you decide to go the ebay option. unless its an old esci transit or escort or other euro ford built ups just dont seem to get the bids in the uk and packing that many would be a nightmare. it might be your best bet to sell them at a swap meet as you dont have to worry about packing them that way, and the theres no worries about bad feedback

Theres also a model railroad place called (i think) hattons. They sell diecast and trains but sometimes have models from collections they have purchased. I haven't seen any built ups there but since they sell diecast maybe built ups would be somthing they would consider.
