Chariots of Fire Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 What did I tell you, Danno!? Ray: What was the issue with how it was going together. Others who have the kit might be interested in knowing.
cobraman Posted October 11, 2022 Author Posted October 11, 2022 For me, it was what I consider vague directions and parts fit when it came to the compactor. I'm sure other can breeze right through it. I think my model mojo is waning and I am not sure how much longer I will keep building. One problem that was of my own doing was the fact I painted the compactor parts all on the trees. I think I would have been far better off if I assembled the main parts and painted it as a unit. I had to spend a lot of time cleaning the pins and the holes the pins fit into. I could have done that better. A third hand could have helped a lot also. I will be very interested in comments from others that tackle this kit. It very well could have been mostly my fault. I find as I get older my patience is not what it once was.
Chariots of Fire Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I think you hit on one thing and that is trying to paint the parts before assembly. If part of the issue was getting paint into hard to get places I have found that brush painting in those places with a paint color similar to what I'm spraying (I use rattle cans almost exclusively) is a good way to eliminate too much paint. I let the overspray of the can blend into those places and the results are pretty good. You had a good start with the green on the cag and from what I could see the box came out pretty good as well. But sometimes I have found that no matter how hard I try to get pins and holes to line up they just don't. That's when I cut the pin off and simply place the part where it needs to go and ignore the "directions". Hope things go better for you next time.?? 2
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 This looks like an interesting kit. It would definitely lend itself to weathering/use to make it look authentic (when have you ever seen a clean trash truck, LOL?). Perhaps your grandson has a future in the waste management consulting business (ala Tony Soprano)? Just kidding.... -RRR
Rockford Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I'm sorry to see that. I suppose we have all got to that point at some time. I nearly threw one across the room a few months ago after spending nearly a year on the thing. The only thing that stopped me was that I couldn't afford to buy it again. A change is as good as a rest, maybe move onto something totally different?
Bronzekeg Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 all of the amt big rig kits leave a lot to be desired Ray, so don't feel bad about it. 2

Well there you are. Maybe do some newer issue car kits that actually work and get your mojo back. Glad your Europa turned out well. I'll go and have a look.
