Calb56 Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Before I had to get rid of everything 12+ years ago, because of life, I had a couple contingency sheets of decals. They were older speed equipment decals and Bonneville Speed Trials decals from the 50s and 60s. Also SCTA, etc. I can't remember who made them and my Google searches haven't brought up anything. I usually have good luck with searching... I was hoping someone had an idea of who made them or if there's anything similar. Looking for them for a couple period builds, especially the Bonneville decals. Thanks. Charles
espo Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Many years ago, Revell, when they were based in Venice Ca., offered some decal sheets with sponsor decals and another with Drag Class window markings. I have a couple of them left but I don't think they would work because of their age.
Mark Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Don't sell those old sheets short. Cut one out and try it, you might be surprised. Worst case, some clear spray or brush-on "decal saver" can be applied to them.

TarheelRick Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Quite often a few thin layers of ordinary clear lacquer will work. But you need to keep the buildup very thin so they will conform to any surface irregularities and not stick out proud of the body surface. Testors also offers a decal spray designed to be used on their decal paper, you may want to try that.
espo Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Thanks for the thoughts on using the old decals. A couple of years ago I built an old Datsun 510 kit with the BRE Livery. This kit has been reissued several times and usually as a stock or tuner style 510. If the subject is of an interest, I would recommend grabbing one as it is a great little kit. My point is that the kit I had was from the last century and the decals looked sort of yellowed. They laid down just fine and didn't try and come apart. There was a sort of muddy type residue that I cleaned away with a Q-Tip and that was the only item I had to deal with. So now that I have found them, I may just use some of the decals on the next appropriate build.
Calb56 Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 Info on applying old decals is cool but still interested on the manufacturer or any manufacturer of old Bonneville Speed Decals. Not certain why this got moved??? Thank you.
Bainford Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Not Bonneville specific, but Slixx has several sheets of drag contingency decals, some of them 60s and 70s era specific, and probably some useful for late 50s, too. Some of these would be applicable to Bonneville stuff. eCatalog Order Ordering System for Slixx Decals (ecsvr.com)
