Svake Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Hello, this is my second mpc Charger kit I am building on and have come to the wheels. My problems are the wheels settings, especially the front wheels. At first I got them them outside the body, had to take away a lot of the fasteners on the inside, is this something that is normal for the kit or am I doing something wrong here? This is how it is sitting just now. It shall be painted matt black.
1972coronet Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 That kit is ancient, dating to at least 1966. The yearly changes to the 1:1 were carried to the scale replica (this one is a product of MPC) were all that was done -- same chassis, different bodies. Flat black was a popular customising paint finish in Sweden back in the 1980s, as far as I am able to remember. Keep going with your project. Continue to have fun building ! 1
Joe Handley Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Yeah, you just need to sand/file/cut down the posts on the wheel backs to make those fit in the fenders, that’s just an ancient kit at this point in it’s life. 2
espo Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 As Billy Joe pointed out, the wheel backs seem far longer than needed. This part looks like something MPC may have used on everything at that time so in many cases like this it puts the tires further out than they should be. I would put the tire in the wheel well where you want it and then measure how much material to remove from the wheel backs. The spindal may have to be shortened as well. 2
doorsovdoon Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 This kit is probably the most "thrown in the trash" kit around! I can't knock it though cos I've built a few of them and love it. They need a ridiculous amount of work though. Until you've built the MPC charger, the phrase "Fit issue" means nothing anymore to whatever you build afterwards!? 3
