The Winter Dance Party continued to Chicago with changes to the lineup:

Jimmy Clayton is a typo, that should be Jimmy Clanton.

That very same event launched the career of hometown celeb Bobby Vee. Holly's plane was on its way here. When his plane went down Vee and his music friends and older brother stepped up to make sure the show went on. He was discovered and he went on to chart many hits in the early 60's.

Whose band briefly had a member named Robert Zimmerman. After Bobby Vee was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Mr. Zimmerman paid tribute with a performance of Vee's first hit:

I was born...10 months, 17 days after that horrific night!

" I"  was 11 yrs old....when this song was released & researched it's reference. For most my life...this song has held a special spot in my heart.

At age 14 ...I moved from W.Des Moines,Iowa to north central Iowa...45 minutes west of Clear Lake, IA.

 One of the first things I did that first summer was to visit the Surf Ballroom & "their" memorial site.

Every time I stop there over all these years... I still! get that very uneasy feeling... 

"This" ....is a very special place!!

Ah yes. Very good. Poor Mr. Zimmerman got fired from the band, but I still get a kick out of the idea of clean cut Vee and the Shadows trying to figure out this quirky and struggling piano player. Clearly the separation was monstrously beneficial to everyone involved, including rock and folk aficionados.
