I've got a project going that had a molded-in exhaust.  I've used my Dremel to remove it with some careful grinding, but now need to replace what was removed.  I'll be using stock mufflers from another kit

1) Remind me what kind(s) of solder to use and what not to use (acid core?).  Attach with CA glue?

2) Recommend a gauge that would look accurate for a mid-'60s full size car.

3) Any treatments (paint, stain) on the solder to make it look more accurate?

4) Will this hold up over the long term or should I try and find a styrene solution?

Thanks for any helpful input on this.

I have only used solid 0.100” styrene and 3/32” styrene tube with soft wire inside to build exhausts. But I think solid 2.5mm solder would work best. Definitely not acid core!? CA or epoxy would work for glue. I’m sure someone who has used solder will chime in.

Like Greg says, solid core for sure, and be sure to use lead-free solder. CA or epoxy for glue. I use CA. For a stock sixties car, I would use 2 mm (.080") solder, which is equivalent to a 2 inch pipe. For a modified street car, go for the 2.5 mm.

Ha!  Greg's response regarding styrene tubing with soft wire inside has me wondering if that wouldn't be the better way to go.
