1967 Daytona TR4a - Airfix Build

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Cobra is very nearly done (just need to redo the bonnet)

So I started another airfix car to practice a few more things on.

This time building the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours Class winning TR4a.

Kits airfix and will pretty much be out the box.

Here is where I've got to after a couple days, again some learnings. Realising patience in waiting for paint to dry and trying to get too much glued at once.

Did try to open up the front grill and will be converting it from LHD to rhd. Dash will be wooden like real car. Some of the interior is guessed as couldn't find reference photos.

Tried white piping on the interior too

Still playing with this.

I tried to open up the vent like on the real car unfortunately the blade made such a big cut that it looks a bit weird and distorted the thin remaining plastic.

Don't worry this is not the final paint and I'll be stripping it back for another go.

I've also done 1 practice go at masking the rear screen to create the real cars soft top. It went okay and I know what to do to get the finish I want.

Also tried to make the dash have a wood effect again, the dash will be redone from scratch as holes need filling and the new wheels hole re drilling

I've seen I need to do a better job filling bumper kit holes too

bought a Airfix Triumph TR4a model at a recent model show, was 1/32 scale. My first car was a 68 Triumph TR250 looks just like this model. I think the TR4 became the TR250 in the US. 1/32 is pretty small, of course the real car is small also. Doing a great job will be watching how it goes
