Fletch Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 Must be why 'you' chose the pearly white . Lookin' forward to seein' it SHINE! Actually, John the original idea behind this was to have it school bus yellow. With that in mind, the primer needed to be light colored. I didn't want to use gray as I figured it would alter the final color. So I used white primer, after seeing how it looked in white I knew that the idea of school bus yellow was out the door. All I know is it sure looks good in white. The engine is all plumbed and ready to be installed in the engine bay. Really all that is left to do is the interior panels as they need to be tuck 'n roll to match the bed cover. With 9 days to go it's doable.

Didja check to make sure it'll fit? ........... sorries Dave, just can't resist some things, ya know? Can't wait to see it under glass.

Yes, it fits, it's been in and out of the engine bay several times during the build. What are friends for but to rub salt in open wounds.

Fletch Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Got closer to having this one completed but I'm running out of time. Like the '40 this is most likely the way it will go to the NNL. There have been several times this past week where it was trying to it's spaghetti impression. You know the one if you throw it and it sticks to the wall it's done. I managed to get the exhaust pipes added as I wanted and the bed cover painted and attached to the body. The grille and front bumper got attached. The door panels have been cut for the doors, but alas I'm running out of hours to get it completed. Should be ready for the PSAMA event i the second Sunday in May. Hosted on Fotki
Foxer Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Everything on that is so subtle and good looking! Very nice!!!!
Fletch Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Thank you guys for your kind comments. This has been a fun build, with the exception of the paint. I can't remember ever having so much trouble getting a paint job to cooperate. I don't know if it's a byproduct of the weather as we've not gotten even close to drying out yet this year or what the problem is. There are still a couple of areas that are generating problems. I'm hoping that a final color sanding and a dose of Clear Urethane will resolve it.
Towmaster Dave Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I've been having the same painting issues here in Tacoma, I think it might be the fact we haven't dries out in months . Can't wait to see your truck at the Model Car Sunday, I will be bringing my '55 Cameo and if I can get paint to work for myself, maybe also my '63 Galaxie. Dave
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 (edited) Nice job man, I ike how it all blends together, well done... Edited April 18, 2009 by unforgiven
Fletch Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 This has been the roughest build I've been involved in for quite some time. It has fought me the entire way since the first coat of primer was applied. The 2 tone bed cover died a quick death and was replaced by the bed cover from an AMT '53 F100. But, today it cooperated as I shot 4 coats of Omni urethane clear. The interior still needs to be completed. Glass and exhaust need to be installed and a final rub out. Hosted on Fotki Hopefully, it along with a pair of '32 Sedans will be completed for the Inner Club Challenge on JUne 6th.
Bernard Kron Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Wow! Sticking with that Pearl White has paid off with those clear coats. Looks Really Nice! Edited May 19, 2009 by gbk1

VERRRRY NICE DAVE Beautiful job, and certainly worth the headache's from the painting problem's. It'll be fun to see it at "THE CHALLANGE" . OLD SKOOOL IS DEFINITLY KOOOOL !!!!!
Fletch Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 I scrapped the idea of scratch building new interior door panels but still didn't want to use the stock '50 units either. So, with a little rework the '58 Edsel Pacer pre-paint kits panels were used along with it's seat, steering wheel and column. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki And here's the T-Bird engine from the Mysterion in it's new home. Hosted on Fotki Hopefully, there will be more photos later or better yet it will find it's way under the glass by the end of the day.
diymirage Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 this is coming out really nice i hope im not imposing but...since the door panels are from the edsel and i guess you wont be needing the stock ones think they would fit in my 53 ford PU ? for whatever reason my kit has no inner door detail (check out the link in my siggy to see the build)
Fletch Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 Completed May 21st. Link to the topic Under the Glass: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20378 Thank you.
